Hey there. New to the board here. So was wondering how familiar/compatible are people here with the J-Rock scene? That is Japanese rock in case you needed to know.

Any heard of Miyavi, Gackt, Malice Mizer, or any other interesting bands you might want to clue me (and my GF who is the bigger J-rock fan than me).

only other Jap band I know is Opus 4, who did the cyber-punk soundtrack for BGC 2040.

The main Japanese act that I love is Cibbo Mato. Not exactly goth or rock but entertaining, nevertheless.

only japanese stuff I ever got into was a small lofe affair with the"noise" scene in the late 90's and a one of my favs from that was a group called Melt Banana... not for those that like structure in their music... after all the genre is called noise

No worries. Not sure any of the acts I presented fit the Goth mold exactly either. To me its about whats good no matter the style or culture.

Na... a lot of people get Gackt mixed up with the main character from Final Fantasy VIII. He was wearing a costume that made him look just like the char long before the game came out. Although the lead designer swears it was based on River Phoenix.
