Michiko_Dreads Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 *sigh* [ *sighs with phee* Honestly I cant think of anything to say but Damn What a Shame.
Joey Deadcat Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Curious how emo is the subculture singled out for ridicule (and sometimes violence) above all other subcultures. I don't dig emo but more and more I do find the malicious attacks (verbal or physical) annoying. So much hate directed at a scene and on what grounds - fashion and stereotypical characteristics?!?! Hell, white power music doesn't even seem to draw as much outrage! My dislike of emo extends no further than maybe an indignant snicker. And it's that same kinda indignance that I hold for cybers,rivetheads,neo-goths,Juggalos,wiggers,hippies,black/death metalheads,jock-types & fratboys, and ravers equally. Doesn't mean I'll ever wish or condone physical attacks against any of those groups nor do I believe they shouldn't exist. What I've noticed in the Detroit Area is that a lotta young punk kids and emos show up at psychobilly(especially Koffin Kats gigs) shows and don't seem to get hassled. Even at gigs that have a mix of psycho and punk bands emo types seem pretty safe there. Those attacks throughout the Latin American countries sure don't speak well of the punk scenes there. Yeah, it's punk without balls but let 'em do their thing and have their scene.
Shade Everdark Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Yeesh, when did this kind of hatred and violence seep into the board? I mean, sure, everyone likes making fun of emo kids but honestly wishing violence on a wussy subculture? And for what? Different fashion and music than what you prefer? Disappointing. Curious how emo is the subculture singled out for ridicule (and sometimes violence) above all other subcultures. Yeah, it's punk without balls but let 'em do their thing and have their scene. These two gentlemen have this subject licked. Really, I thought this scene was about doing your own thing and leaving everyone else the hell alone, because it's what we want others to do to us. Two brief points. First, yeah, a snicker or a joke at their expense is all in good fun, since most of us give the same to everyone else, including and especially our own scene. Secondly, we as a group don't rate very much higher at all in others' estimation. First they came for the emos, and I said nothing, because I was not an emo, and they had silly hair, if you will. If the emos are gone, who do you think they'd turn on next? Oh, but that's right, none of us here REALLY cares what anyone else thinks of us.
DarkChylde Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 Once again im able to start a topic to get most all bent out of shape! WHOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!! HAHAHA!!
TitsMcGee Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Well, I guess I could somewhat understand if its a form of phase that a teenager would go through in there teen years (alot of teens always like to talk about committing suicide). But for grown adults there is no excuse. Its sickening to always threatening to kill yourself just to draw attention and gets a hard-on from depression or the whole "I CUT MYSELF TO FEEL ALIVE" I actually take serious offence to that statement. I've suffered from clinical depression and borderline personality disorder since I was 12 years old. I'm also a "recovering" cutter because like an alcoholic I'm always going to be labeled a cutter. Also just like alcohalics fall off the wagon, cutters relapse. I haven't relapsed in over a year but it's a struggle everyday. I cut myself because my body is the only thing in my life I have any control over. It's not for attention because no one can ever see them. Some of those emo kids are probably the same way I am, and believe me it's not a phase it's a fact of life. Everyone has different ways to cope with things, from grabing a bottle to grabing a blade. There was a time in this world that the subculture that was being beaten and mocked was the goth and punk scenes. Just because someone is different than you doesn't mean it's a free pass to torment them, that just makes you a bully and no better than people who did it to you. As it was already said hate breeds hate.

Yes I was a cutter before as well, I suffered bi-polar, manic depressive and anxiety. But ya dont hear me whine about it these days. I can show you tons of past pictures of deep cuts on my arms. Did I said anything about me beating up a emo? I think you need to re-read what I said earlier. I simply cant stand them because they give people who really does suffer certain disorders a bad name. But you can go ahead and think what ya want though, cuz I could give a fuck-less what others think of me.....Nigga!! LOL

Sure there are definatly some that do, but there are people like that everywhere not just emos. Also why is it considered whining to express emotion? As for emos causing certain disorders to have bad names they don't have that much power in this world. Mental illnesses were given a bad name long before the emo culture sprang up. And no you didn't say anything about beating up an emo, that was in reference to the article itself. As for what I think about you, personally I think you're a nice guy, we just have different views on this subject.

So far you been cool in my book to talk to, however no matter who ya talk to cant always expect to agree on every opinion. So anyways, hope you can make it to my party so I can meet ya in person!
tanuki1985 Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 People who go around and whine about how hard their lives are/were annoy the f*ck out of me. Hell, even I could sit here and elaborate and tell some horrifying stories from my own life; however, I choose not to. My closest friends know some of them, but why should I advertise them for everyone? I look back at those times and realize that whatever didn't kill me only made me stronger. Sure, every now and then I'll get "down in the dumps," but it's not something I want the entire world to know. The fact that people make emo-ness into a competition by writing about it in their public LiveJournal/blog, telling everyone on a message board, or telling everyone within a 10-foot radius makes me violently ill to my stomach. Seriously, what the f*ck. No one cares. I wish I had a violin small enough to play the whiny little melody that I would like to play for you. If it is honestly that bad, then go write a crappy poem, talk to a psychiatrist, or call 1-800-SUICIDE. Spare the rest of us, kthxbi. Those who defend the current trend called "emo culture" have probably never met an emo in person. They are vile creatures. Not only to they defile the true definition of mental illness, but they're also bad news for us goths, as many seem to confuse the two. The only good thing I can say about them is that they will probably grow up and forget about their little emo phase; unfortunately, not 100% of them ever make it this far. I know people my own age and older who still cling to being emo, and to be quite frank, it makes me want to scream. I will say, however, that I would NOT like to see any violence against emos. You see, emos thrive on running around and saying, "No one likes us. See, they even want to kick our asses. Woe to us, everyone feel sorry for us." By harming them, we're only giving them what they want because they find that as another way to seek out attention and pity. I say ignore them and they'll eventually give up because they won't get any of these things... and we will win the war against the oh-so-annoying emos. Besides, I do not support violence of any kind.
SaGa Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 one the emo culture never really stole goth culture. it was a offshoot of hardcore then in the mid 90s it became more infused with indie then hardcore. i believe emo kids are much more rare then people think. as the scene kids steal from the culture of emo down to the t. if they are not the military post-hardcore dickheads then it seems they follow more of the emo trends. the only goth emos might of been after the cure but most did not put goth into the culture.
Hellion Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 I basically dont bother them anyway even though their whiny shit is very annoying. Now violence against corrupt law makers would definately be something I would participate in,because they deserve it.
peelingchrome Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Now violence against corrupt law makers would definately be some I would participate in,because they deserve it. Here here!!! You sing to my heart!!
DarkChylde Posted August 10, 2008 Author Posted August 10, 2008 Here here!!! You sing to my heart!! I can agree. Theres alot worse to worry about in todays society.
ashlei Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 GET EM...KICK THEIR ASS...BEAT THOSE LILY LIVERED, HOT TOPIC BULLSHYT BITCHES INTO A BLOODY PULP!!!...just don't touch Atreyu and MCR....cuz their actually really fucking good bands...BUT BEAT THE FUCK OUT OF EVERYONE ELSE!!!! I really hope you're being sarcastic, because I find it kinda ironic how you're defending the crappiest emo-y bands but either way, that's a pretty ignorant thing to say. just because you disagree with someone doesn't give you the right to physically assault them. does anyone have the tiniest speck of tolerance anymore?

Exactly! Very well said.
Head Wreck Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 i still reserve the right to give the kids in my friends band a slight poke fun. they give as good as they take. tolerance is the key. but welcome to the human race. you have equal oportunities. you sabre toothed yuppie wankers

Destroit Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I really hope you're being sarcastic, because I find it kinda ironic how you're defending the crappiest emo-y bands OMFG...it's funny 'cause it's true! I hate emos because everyone in mainstream society gets them confused with goth now. So really...it almost just makes me hate preppy people even more than I already did (and have a right to slightly after a lifetime of hellish torture on their part) because they're the ones that always get them confused. So quite honestly...I don't care if emos are whiny little bitches, which pisses me off and yeah will warrant me making fun of them, the big thing that gets me is how 90% of normies think that goth and emo are the same thing. That's like those annoying assholes who call all Asian races "Chinese" regardless if they're Japanese, Korean, etc.
Scales Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I think this whole thing going on in Mexico is ridiculously dumb. I've been called Emo in the past just for being depressed + a closet cutter. The way I perceive culture is that it's a library and I can borrow what I want from it, applying it however I want. I think people who result to cultural violence have become enslaved by the collective ignorance within their culture.
graverobber Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 It's kind of a toss up, my money's on the punks though the real loser is 'you' for watching kind of like wwf ;rowdy roddy piper, off the top rope: you know what I mean?
SaGa Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 i thought this thread died. hmmm so the emos and punks are at war. while the pop kids are at war with the punks. the metalheads are at war with everyone but the punks and industrial/goth kids. the hippies just smoke to much pot to even care. and the gangsters are at war with anyone that looks at them funny hmm i wonder where the news got rockabilly kid. you whould think they pick gangster just to make all offensive music to look bad.
DarkChylde Posted August 29, 2008 Author Posted August 29, 2008 i thought this thread died. So did I.
Hellion Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 The way this thread has gone its kinda like comparing Oreo's and Hydrox cookies.
