Miranda Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 How do you feel about prisons in general? Obviously they are needed to keep hardcore criminals away from society but do you feel some criminals should have better treatment? Will it make a difference to you if the prisoner is there for a violent offense versus a white collar crime or drug charge? Or are they all the same to you? Also, should they just get food, shelter, water and space? Not other activities, such as yard?
phee Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 First they need a less embarrasing name then the "Penal System"
Hellion Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 It seems that violent criminals get better treatment, the prison system is jacked up as well anyway.IMO you cannot rehabilitate a violent criminal, rapist, molester, serial killer, they just end back in there again for the same type of crime.thats just how I feel.
Miranda Posted August 16, 2008 Author Posted August 16, 2008 Let me just add, I think conjugal visits should be completely out of the question.

Gaf The Horse With Tears Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I think that 9mm bullets cost about 50 cents each.
Miranda Posted August 16, 2008 Author Posted August 16, 2008 I think that 9mm bullets cost about 50 cents each. It's cost-effective.. I'll give you that. I am sure there are cheaper bullets than .50, especially when buying bulk. I have a lifer in my family, so, it's good enough for him too.
freydis Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 i think our nations prisons are more like criminal education camps.
Guest GodfallenPromos Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 ahhh...the Prison system of the good ole U.S.A....otherwise known as "what a tangled web we weave". 1: most criminals who have been in, or are currently in, the U.S. Prison system fear one thing for the remainder of their stay...jail. The differance between jail and Prison are very simple: Jail is a city/ county ran facility that has sub standard food, minimal activities, and are often over-populated to the point where there is a shortage of bedding and/or clothing, as well as 3-4 men in a 2 man cell. Depending on county "funds", there is often an inadequate amount of..well..anything. Prisons, on the other hand, are either State/Federally ran. They often have the same type of food you would find in your average, lower-class dinging resturant, such as a Big Boys. They have large exorcise yards, and depending on where they are, often have other activities, like Horseback-riding and "track n field". They have access to large amounts of books, clothes, and in about a 50/50 spread...space!! 2: you can't take away the major "other activities" of the Prison System, because they are viewed as outlets for stress and aggression. The prisons where a much more violent, and socially inhuman, place to be. Things like Horseback-riding, however, can be taken right back OUT. While I don't like the idea of "Big Baby" building up his physique to resemble that of a brick wall, I would much rather have him do that then continously slamming his prison bitch over the toilet. I know he is gonna do his prison bitch anyway..but before you think of making a request for the removal of activities in prison, such as yard and shop, please...think of the prison bitch. 3: There is a very slow trend coming about in the Prison System that is very popular, among wardens and the general public: Work Camps. Work Camps are a day-to-day facility that has prisoners transported out to it, and they are put to work: plowing a field, cleaning up garbage, etc. This provides several things that are very pro-active: work gets done, prisoners get fresh air and out of cramped facilities, and expeiriance a sort of freedom that they wouldn't get while in the yard. And before anyone things of running away, prisoners are often chained together with leg and belly shackles...at least 20 guys in a line...to that is 20 guys that have to run TOGETHER if they wish to try and make a break for it. The work camps have been very successful out in the South West, and will most likely see a high return throughout the rest of the country in the following years. 4: there is little in the way of ACTUAL rehabilitaion going on there. Many Prisoners just go to programs because it gives them a chance to get out sooner, or looks better on a parole hearing. Younger criminals learn "old school tricks" from older "yard-birds" There are many prisoners looking to ACTUALLY rehabilite, but for everyone one prisoner looking to get a new start on life, there are 3 looking for a quicker way out.
Enishi Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Most of the really violent criminals aren't going to be rehabilitated unless they actually choose to, IMO. In addition, the really violent ones can make life miserable for those who are actually innocent.
Hellion Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Violent criminal, molesters, rapists, and serial killers should be used for chemical testing,LOL!!
phee Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Violent criminal, molesters, rapists, and serial killers should be used for chemical testing,LOL!! Wouldn't that suck if they were later found to be innocent? LOL
