SaGa Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 http://news.yahoo.com/s/eonline/20080828/en_celeb_eo/26366 Los Angeles (E! Online) - Someone has taken Kate Moss' role as fashion's golden girl rather literally. ADVERTISEMENT British sculptor Marc Quinn is ready to unveil his latest creation to the world, a nearly $2.8 million, 110-pound solid gold statue of the supermodel, hyped as the largest such creation built since ancient Egypt. does anybody think this is taken to far, perhaps next whould be a golden statue of johnny depp
taysteewonderbunny Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 It doesn't really matter to me. Statues of beautiful people are common, as are those of persons of power, but I'm sure that at least more than once statuary has been based on contemporary (to that period) icons for the purpose of immortalizing an ideal of beauty, not the person depicted his or herself. I think that is the case here, as the sculptor chose the name "Siren", not "Kate". Perhaps the sculptor does adore her for her fame (or infamy), or some other reason incidental to her identity, but I think it is no great stretch beyond practices enacted in history, cheesy or otherwise.
sass_in_the_pants Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 I think it's funny that the statue of Kate Moss probably weighs more than Kate Moss.

I suppose it would boost her ego. I still don't really care enough to be bothered by it. I'm not defending it by any means. I just don't think it is any more ridiculous than a lot of other stuff. It's EXPENSIVE, this bit of fluff, but it is still a bit of fluff. I suppose that an argument could be made that a more worthy subject ought to be immortalized in gold, but who? Mother Theresa? She'd turn in her grave if that money wasn't given to charity instead. $2.8 mil? Wow.
