People might actually listen this time and leave. Like they should have done last time.

And hopefully FEMA won't get caught at the ranch again....

2 of my good friends live down there - one of them lived there when Katrina hit (she left the night before that one hit). I'm very worried about them.

I lived in New Orleans for a while and still love that city a lot. I have friends who are scattered all over the place due to Katrina. I have some friends who have moved back there. I am really nervous about this hurricane.

There is a mandatory evacuation already in place. The police actually went up and down the streets with bull horns telling people if they stayed they were on their own, there are no shelters set up, it's get the fuck out of dodge. I know there's like 700 buses ready to get people out too.

My friends just moved to the air base in Biloxi, total evacuation for families there. They're on their way to Dallas at the moment.

I have several friends who informed me that they evacuated as well. Some went to TX, and others went to KS.

It's not coming anywhere near us.. and we still have 30mph winds today with 50mph gusts.

Good... because I would hate to hear that you had to go out and give Gustav a beat down

Fuel up now kids, apparently it's headed right for three major refineries in N. Orleans. And then murder the speculators so that gas prices can go back down.

Wind and Rain are pretty strong now.

Been following it fairly closely. Mass evacuation seems to be going (or pretty much gone) fairly well. Still some kooks that wont leave, but not nearly as bad as any previous hurricane from what I can tell.

I just keep thinking "damn, ANOTHER ONE??" Scary.

Random fairly irrelevant factoid i was unaware of , the names of these things is pre-determined from a list and the names are re-used unless its a particularly bad one, and then they retire the name:

If the levees fail again... which they most likely will... it will be way worse that Katrina. Not as many dead this time... but the property damage and loss will be catastrophic at best. Insurance company's may well go belly up... so something good might come out of it.

**sighs**

I know the city is in a bad location, and people have been predicting for years that NO will end up underwater eventually. But, this breaks my heart. Some of my best memories are from when I lived there.

It really seems that the U.S. gets the most natural disasters in the world

We've had a lot more in the past few years. But, Asia still tops us.

We actually haven't even had more than average... just a few more really bad ones... and even they fit into normal long term patterns.
