Presidential Race: The "Grand Circus"

Well, my fellow Americans, we have found ourselves in what will perhaps be the most historical Presidental Race since it's inception. One one hand, we have an African American that actually has a solid shot to break the racial wall that has stood up in our country since the slaves were freed. One the other hand, we have very possiably the first female VP of the US, the highest rank a woman will have achieved so far in politics.

So why do I call it the "Grand Circus"??

because a "circus" is exactly what it has turned into. This Presidental Race has become more about controversy then it has about values, at least to the politicians.

Barack Obama is the Mid-west, community organizing Senator from Ill. He is also a black man, and unfortunately I have to bring up the issue of race working both for and against him.

Pro: He has a chance to put a serious dent in a racial wall that has stood around the higher political offices of this country for years. If he becomes president, we will have finally reached a proper starting point where it really won't matter what color your skin is...as long as you have hard work, determination, good oratory skills, and a little luck, you can become "King of the Mountian".

Con: Because of his race, and because of his religious beliefs, I believe that Obama, should be become President, will go down into the books as the President with the most attempts on his life. It is sad to think that we are this socially stunted that the color of a man's skin has to dictate what he can and can't accomplish. Wheither he wins or not, Obama represents a double-edged sword in the racial tension of this country.

If he wins, he will have many attempts on his life, and those will turn into a war that America hasn't seen since the Civil War: a war with ourselves. It will be Race vs Race, Supporters vs Haters. It won't be an organized fight like many wars...it will be one of the nastiest ones in history: guerrilla warfare, subterfuge, and fear EVERYWHERE. America the Beautiful could turn into a country ravaged by war...a Babylon.

If he looses, the "black Panther" style movements will rise again in frequency, as it will be seen that, even in the 21st century, the "white man is still trying to keep us down". We will be tossed into the same war, though not as drastic at first. It will be slow...subtle...and then explode with each term that he, or another nominee of color, are "kept" from gaining the office of the U.S. Presidency. Once again...we could be looking at Babylon.

There is, however, a very thin line that lays between the two....a line of shining hope. I cannot define it, as at this moment, I do not have the proper words...but it is there.

Sarah Palin is the hardnose, upper class Governor of Alaska. She has shown time and again that she likes to play hardball, and will do what she can to get her point across. She is also a woman...and because of that, bears a heavy burden of hidden, and open, criticisms of her ability to handle the job.

Pro: Palin would put a huge dent in another wall that lies over much of this country: sexism. Her appointment to VP office would mean that women are that much closer to true equal rights. Better option at competative wages; stronger laws on rape, molestation, and sexual harassment cases; and a the start of a crackdown on the porn industry....because it doesn't NEED to be the highest grossing industry in America.

Con: Along with her rather maverick style, which has garnered her several investigations and much ridicule from Alaska Natives as it has praise, Palin will be touted as unable to make the right descision for the best of the country if it happens to effect her in a personal way. She has already used her political power in Alaska to effect the lives of people with personal connections to her, like demanding that her sisters Ex Husband be fired from his job....and when his boss declined, she fired both of them. Mind you, their job dismissal had nothing to do with their job effectiveness...but was for personal reasons.

This is showing exactly what much of america is afraid of in a female canidate: over-emotional attitude coupled with a power-hungry streak, and a dash of personal revenge for taste.

Her appointment will start a chain-reaction that brings sexism out more to the open...and makes it more violent. More men loosing their jobs...this time to women (this will not be based on skills or expierance, but a possible "equal oppertunity" higher goverment kickback for hiring more women). This is already happening in a small degree. Divorce cases will favor women MORE then they already do (which the rate that they do now is bullshyt). Due to this, domestic violence, homicide, and rape cases against women will upswing, and the "war of the sexes" will escalate like it never has before....to an actual war.

To our politicians though, it's not about walls, or even about policies.....this race is about controversy and history.

Obama already has controversy on his side as the first African American Presidental Nominee of any party. He didn't need to nominate a Running mate of another ethnic minority, he needed to nominate a running mate that was well known in the field...and has a long history in politics. This was done, with the naming of Joe Biden, to average out the fact that Obama has "little expieriance" in goverment....and to also give the Caucasian Democratic voters that were somewhat on the edge about the race wall, someone they could identify with. Biden has a record of being a ...well...lets face it...a political asshole...but he has something that Obama doesn't have...Biden falls into two hundred plus years of "familiarity".

McCain has expieriance and the familiarity...but he has no controversy..and therefore KNEW that the history books would look to repeat themselves if he became president...nothing special...nothing AMAZING...and because of that, he knew he was loosing the battle of "WOW" with Obama and the Democrats. The McCain camp had to do something...and he also needed someone that he knew would be like him...have a reputation for being a "maverick", one of the few things that has kept McCain in the game. So, for her maverick status, and because of her "WOW" factor, due to gender, McCain picks Sarah Palin as his running mate. At the base, thats what it is...she was picked because she could bring the "female angle" to his side, and make the McCain Presidental idea rise up the "WOW" stock market.

Now he is on an even playing field: he has familiarity, expieriance, and now he has "WOW".

Now....you know why I call it the "Grand Circus".

I just have to ask... Why is it that you mentioned that un-proven alligations agaisnt Palin but not the proven scandels that Obama is messed up with?

honestly??

because I don't feel they add weight to the controversy that relates to his skin color. His religious choice...yeah...but not his racial ethnicity.

Her allegations, which may not be proven, but there is alot of evidence, and years of coverage on, IMO, have weight to her controversy as a female in our modern society.

if you feel otherwise, that the scandels against Obama have weight to the his racial status, please, Gaf...post away.

honestly...I find it appalling on either side that it's become more about a race into the history books then it is on better policies.

lets hope people dont vote on race and gender and completely ignore what each of them stand for. thats asking for to much. obamas hard left, if not borderline communistic. him being black, or white, or asian, or even blue, has no bearing at all in my mind.

Okay, this is a good thread.

I think though, you may have missed, what I believe to be the "true" reason why this presidential race has become the "grand circus" as you accurately dubbed it.

The Mainstream Media!

When Sara Palin made the announcement about her daughter's pregnancy, the mainstream media jumped ALLLLLL OVER that piece of information like a rabid pack of bloody-hungry sharks.

They took that piece of news, and sensationalized it and made it out to be a helluva alot more then it actually is. McCain & Obama said it should not be an issue to be discussed in public, and that it should have no place in political discussions.

But even though both canidates said that, the mainstream media still hasn't shut the hell up about it yet.

This year's presidential race is a circus because the mainstream media has sensationalized it to such a gigantic level. They sensationalized the presidential race, just like they did with Britney & Jamie lynn Spears.

The mainstream media, IMO, enjoys stirring the pot.

DOES ANYONE REMEMBER A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION THAT WAS NOT A FUCKING MUD THROWING CONTEST OR CIRCUS?

I DO NOT.

I'm done now; thank you.

I was unaware that his skin color was the only controversy that Obama was involved in. Actually, I was unaware that was a controversy at all.

You don't think his connection to a known terrorist (William Ayers) is controversial?

Or his connections to Tony Rezko?

Or his racists preacher, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.?

You don't think his connection to a known terrorist William Ayers is controversial?

The only direct, fully supported link between Obama & Ayers is that Ayers contributed $200 to the Obama campaign. The rest is right-wing conjecture & innuendo. Don't believe everything you read--I'm sure you don't, Gaf.

Or his connections to Tony Rezko

Obama admirably came clean with an expression of sincere regret regarding his purchase from this man. Dwelling on it seems as silly as dwelling on Gov. Palin's husband's DWI's. Let's move to the issues, please.

Or his racists preacher, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr

Say what you will about this fellow, I don't think he impacts the campaign much either way. If he were key to the issues at hand, he would still be on FoxNews every day, to be sure.

My only point was that there were controversy's around Obama other than his skin color. I didn't damn the man the first time I read about them. I let them play out and watched where the shit settled. Thats pretty much what everyone did. I think we owe Palin the same respect.

Yes because shooting an 11 year old with a taser, drinking in the patrol car and shooting a moose illegally is just the best way a state trooper can act. She was well within her rights as Governor to have him fired, and because his boss refused to she was within her rights to fire him too. Seriously who wants a cop on the job that has absolutly no problem breaking the law?

Indeed--we owe Palin, Biden, McCain, & Obama such respect.

actually...I just read an article in the paper last night, while at trixies...the trooper accused of those things is the child's STEP FATHER....not the ex husband....I will try to find more on the subject.

Did I say that those above didn't effect him???....absolutely not. I believe they do effect him. Do I believe that they are more important, in the deep social mindset of the majority of the voting public, then say...his skin color....or that his skin color is being totted around a little MORE then those issues....yes I do.

this isn't a historical race because of bad land deals, questionable firings, pregnant daugters, or racist preachers....it's a contraversial historical race because one of the Prime canidates is an African American...and the other canidate choose a woman as his VP running mate....either way...we have a HUGE insert into the history books.

The one scandel you mentioned that I think has some weight on Barack's status as an American Black Male, would be his FORMER preacher, Rev. Wright Jr. (thanks for the reminder, btw)

All of the afformentioned scandel's effect Sarah Palin because of how our modern society tends to portray women...they all fall into those categories I mentioned in a different thread.

The Fired Trooper, The Step Father and the Ex-Husband are all the same person.

Because you know the fact that Palin's sister had the child during her first marriage, then went on to marry this jackass doesn't make him the kids step father? Seriously GFP.

All I am saying is that the article that I read last night in the paper made a distinction between the two. I am still trying to find the said article, if it exist online.
