Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise is calling on liberal filmmaker Michael Moore to apologize after he said Friday that the timing of Hurricane Gustav is “proof that there is a God in heaven,” since the storm approaching the Gulf Coast could disrupt next week’s Republican National Convention.

Moore made the remarks to MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann. Republicans have been monitoring the storm’s progress, considering whether to postpone their convention in St. Paul, Minn., if the storm wreaks havoc on the New Orleans area, just three years after Hurricane Katrina.

“I was just thinking, this Gustav is proof that there is a God in heaven,” Moore said. “To just have it planned at the same time, that it would actually be on its way to New Orleans for Day One of the Republican convention, up in the Twin Cities, at the top of the Mississippi River.”

Scalise released a statement Saturday blasting the documentary filmmaker for the remarks.

“I demand an immediate apology from Michael Moore to the people of south Louisiana for his offensive and inappropriate comments,” said Scalise, a Republican. “People in Louisiana, regardless of political affiliation, are making plans to leave to protect their families from this serious storm, and the God I know would not share Michael Moore’s glee for our plight.”

Residents of New Orleans and the surrounding area have to started to evacuate, while the storm strengthened to a Category 4 hurricane.

Moore seemed to back off his statement on air Friday, later saying, “I mean I certainly hope nobody gets hurt. I hope everybody’s taking cover.”

I'm right on the gulf coast here in St.Petersburg, F.L.

alot of storm watching around here.

Is micheal moore a giant duche????

i would say yes, but that doesn't mean he's allways wrong.

i rented sicko along with a few other movies at least twice and is was just to boring to watch and i never did see it.

i did watch like every steven segal movie in three weekends that was cool.

micheal more or steven segal both film makers both entertainers but only one is an expert. so i had to opt for the more experienced film maker in segal.

he'd be like"So I think you did a terable thing......and now your going to pay for it with your life...." in like a wisper. then the shit would just break loose ,crack "aghhhhh!"

or micheal more stutering trying to wreck someones day like an asshole.

I mean for me it's an easy decision.

It would be the coolest micheal more documentery ever if steven segal went around wrighting all the alleged wrongs insinuated by more like a super hero. he would get a yellow envelope in one scene then next be at a nursing home breaking an orderly's arm and killing like five male nurses in a karate fight.

micheal more would'nt know what to do in segals world. professional problem solving. the last scene would be segal, more, and the head of the free masons in the washington underground lair and segal would be like "enough talk!" and through a nife in someones eye then a 20 minute action scene.

moore is a jackass....thats why he will never get's invited to anything

he's the kinda guy that could comment on a car accident involving a child, and say the word "Amen" behind it

Indeed.... Moore is kind of like the guy at a party that whenever the song thats being played ends, would bellow "thank god" and when others ask if people want to chip in for pizza, he says he is not hungry... untill it gets there and then all of a sudden he has an appetite.

Bad timing and poor judgment. I'd be OK with it a couple years from now as the underlying sardonic humor is right up my alley. But in certain circumstances you have to STFU with your sociopolitical ideas and have some sympathy.

I'd suggest rather than demanding an apology and wasting breath, the time would be better spent encouraging the kooks that wont get the hell out of dodge to get out. Rather than arguing with an untimely remark and ruffling up your moral feathers. You don't waste time asking for an apology for an off color comment if your concerned about a tragedy that has yet to happen, go do something to actually help if your so concerned. Sheesh.

Leave it to FoxNews to cover such a ridiculous non-story.

Who the f*ck cares what Michael Moore said?

I think he was attempting humor...

I reiterate... attempting...

..it may have lacked the 'proper timing'...

..but in all honesty... it would be less ironic, & more sardonic, if he waited...

... & c'mon peoples... it's his job to incite & inflame the right (& made a pretty penny doing it){more than any $ any of us have} ... I would not be surprised to find out on a later date to find that he is a puppet... with strings going up to the highest echelons of the Right Wing.

So because this isn't happening, you're thus proving his (Michael Moore's) original point?

maybe he just has not had the oportunity yet. he's probably still planning a suitable demise for the monobrowed anti-christ, Chris DeBerg. which is of an understandably higher importance
