So my family is out in the living room right now watching "20/20" and the current topic of the evening is "They're Not Like Us".

This episode is about "beautiful people" and how they get practically anything they want. I should not be surprised that the world partially goes around by good looks, but geez!

Apparently in China, a young girl was singing a hymn for her country...or so it looked like it. The young girl was actually lip-syncing. It turns out that the government hid the actual girl that was singing because she was not as pretty as the lip-syncer.

I find this world disappointing...and I know this is nothing new.

I do not believe that this is sending out a good message to children at all. Telling them that in order to get anywhere in life, you have to be beautiful. That is just great for self-esteem, keep sending out that message. Bullshit. And of course the "money makes the world go round". Fuck.

Here's a link:

The Privilege of Being Beautiful

(I guess I am just ranting, in kind of a mood...I hope I posted this in the right place).

Any thoughts?

It's a good rant.

Thanks. I usually never watch television, but I happened to be making tea in the kitchen and thought I would sit and watch. I was appalled. *Pssh*

That was actually in China for the opening ceremony for the Olympics.

It was a huge controversy (and the punchline of so many jokes for Stephen Colbert), but you are right. I agree with your rant 100%. Now how do I start capitalizing on my good looks?

And did you see the girl that they hid because she was apparently too wretched looking for TV?

She was ADORABLE!

Sheesh...if she can't make it I don't stand a chance!

China, actually. It was at the opening ceremony for this years Olympics in Beijing. I think I remember seeing it on the Today show and the Chinese thought it was normal but a lot of Americans were rather pissed about it, they even went out of their way to get a picture of the actual little girl and put it on the news in order to credit her. Very sad that the Chinese would do that indeed. Oh well, we found out and made them look bad at least.

sadly what is appealing to the eye changes soo much. thin wasnt always attractive. but somehow it slowly progressed. i always thought it was that men need to feel dominant and someone who is close to or equal his weight is a bash on that dom role.

even in this world with how much grey areas there are in society the majority still follow the dom/sub roles. perhaps its all just chemistry and hardwired in our brains.
