Gaf The Horse With Tears

I was at work, and heard about it from people calling 411 to get numbers. At first, they just wanted someone to tell. Then, it was people calling airliners to check on loved ones.

As for me... There are a few events in my lifetime that I remember with crystal clarity. if you know me.... that's no mean feat.

I was at work when someone called a few of us into a break room to watch the TV. The firsat plane had already hit but they weren't sure what was going on. Then the second plane came in. Then the reports from the pentagon. Then footage of the first plane.... and it just got worse and worse. I called my ex to tell her and then just sat there numb... We got sent home at lunch time and I was semi glued to the TV all day. This event caused my brother to buy a TV. He watched it all day for a week.

The only other events I remember with similar clarity are when I watched a woman die when she was hit by a race car just below the tower I was standing on, and the birth of both my daughters.

A sad day indeed.

I heard about it while on a VRML chatroom.. it doesn't get much geekier than that.

if i forget everything else, I'll always remember where I was, or what I was doing, and I remember crying my eyes out as I watched the second plane hit, and then the buildings fall... I didn't know anyone who was there, but it still hurt. It was one of the worst days to be an empath... :cry

I can't believe that its been 7 years! wow...

I was no more than 20 miles from the Pentagon when it got hit. The commander of the base I was stationed (a vice-admiral at a tri-service command) ordered our base evacuated of non-essential personnel (of which, I was one of that group.) The thought of going down to help was quelled by the admiral, citing we would had added to the cluster that is the terrible traffic of downtown DC, and prevent evacuation.

A few months later, we got a presentation by one of the doctors stationed in the Pentagon about dealing with the injured and the dead. Pretty surreal presentation. One part of the story that did I did find interesting is that generals and admirals were taking cues from him on how to set up treatment areas/crisis areas.

One of my classmates' mothers was in a building not too far from the towers, and had some even more surreal pictures of it. I don't know if I still have copies.

Makes you kinda want to leave the military in the middle east for a little while longer, doesn't it? Or just bomb the fuck out of them and create a glass desert.

7 years ago TODAY was my mother's 55th B'day....

7 years from yesterday however was not a good day.

I was on my way to class, my daughter was two, we were watching children's programming before we left the house, (because nothing preempts children's programming)

I played a tape in the car on my way to class.

I got into my pre-calc class where the joke filled guy next to me informed me of the news, to which I thought he was joking. I said "are you joking" he said, "no"

The Prof came in late that day to inform us that she was going to do her best to keep teaching, many friends of hers were at the pentagon so she was obviously worried. She cut class about 45 minutes short.

I picked up my child from preschool, informed them. I went to my then in laws house, where I watched my father in law watch the videos again and again.

On my way I observed the world, I had to pass the sheriff's department on the way home, which was blocked off, by the police or the national guard, I can't remember now.

I called my then husband; he already knew.

I knew nothing would ever be the same. And nothing ever was. As a direct consequence of 9/11, my brother in law was deported for giving a girl a wedgie at work. Dangerous terrorist.

My bro in law didn't bring down the WTC. My bro in law didn't do enough wrong to warren such horrible punishment. To have to leave his friends, his family?

If we are going to punish terrorists, lets punish the ones who did something major.

And that's what I think of when I think of Sept. 11, 2001.
