Like in the "Geek Squad" :drool:unsure::blushing: *prays* (or is it preys )

an agnostic atheist? .. hmm.. Interesting.. I take it you're a fence sitter who is pretty damn sure there is no god, but won't make that final plunge?

lol, yes as in the squad of geekiness. i'm not proud of it, no. but it's a good paying part time job while i'm going to school

I am atheist because i am agnostic. Bertrand Russel famous argument about the celestial teapot helps me to illustrate my point.

“ If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is an intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense...."

So what he says is that, since you cannot prove or disprove this assertion about a teapot orbiting the sun, the natural assumption is not to believe it being there. Note that this is different from saying that it is NOT there. Just simply that it is unlikely. Now because it is unlikely, you can make the assumption that it isn't there, but you cannot know for sure. So You may not be able to tell there is a teapot there (agnostic) you can still believe there isn't (atheist). Being also a man of science i will not commit myself to saying 100% there is certainly no such thing as a god (in a theist, or deistic sense) but i will say that i am 99.99% sure there isn't.

Very nice!

Welcome!

You SHOULD go to city club more, I'm highly into 'geeks' whether they like being them or not.

For I AM one myself, and I'm pretty proud of it now.

Shit, what am I getting myself into?

xD

Thank you! It's important to be able to clearly convey your thoughts and ideas.

I do so much wish to get back to city one of these weekends! It has been some 6 years since I've been. I got a geeky job, and became a dad, so now my fashion is rather toned down. My wardrobe is quite lacking now as a result. Also I had to shave my Mohawk off when i got my job :( it was 7 1/2 inches by the time i shaved it off. But i'm working on growing it back in now. Not nearly as long, but at least a buzzhawk for now. Figure i can ease my work into accepting it, hell there is a guy with 3 foot dreadlocks, and a few guys with fauxhawks they wear up everyday, so they better accept it.

Ohhh a geeky girl, a rare spectacle. Observe as she flexes her posting muscle, what a spectacular breed! I'm also proud to be a geek, just not proud to be working for a corporation that exploits the societal stereotype of the word.

:wink

Ah, that's understandable and makes a bit more sense to me :3

Working for corporations sucks, pretty much. They hire and fire to suit their short term financial needs and that's pretty much it. If the board's pay or "shareholder value" looks to be diminished, you can bet they won't be too worried about laying you off.

Yeah. I'm a little bitter after four layoffs in 7 years.

I'm glad that as i get older, I identify more with my creative entrepreneurial side... Corporate life will not keep me forever. Unless my current, Japanese employers keep sending me to Japan. :-)

Pssst, you got post number 42 to my welcome thread!

It seems you must be the enlightened one. I can't wait till the simulation Earth completes, perhaps then we'll know the question.

Pay attention when you make your 42nd post to your status. You will go from Newbie to________.

Me? enlightened? Do I get something for that? Perhaps a box of cereal with a toy inside?
