How Important Is Someone's Word?

I've asked many people and now I'd like to know how those of you here feel about this.

How important is someone's word?

Example:When someone says they will call you back and you don't hear back from them how do you feel? If they do that once I can understand but everytime? Would you get the impression they are only saying that to look good and never have any intention of keeping thier word?

Does that lower your trust in what they tell you?

Your thoughts........

The minute I suspect anything like what you mentioned,I completely forget them for good,I do not have time for the "pretend to be friends"bullshit,to me thats f$#ktarded.I just wonder why people like to play that game anyway, you just make enemies in the long run.and IMO people who get off on that bs are not worth my time,we have enough human garbage as it is in this country. thats why I am mostly antisocial,I have better things to do than deal with re-tarts.Now if they can stick to their word and be like that for at least 90 days(probationary period)than they are worthy,I want to see actions after words, awesome thread Der Nister

There are two components to this "my word" stuff. The first are the short term, daily kind of things. Like you mentioned, does the person call back when they say they will, etc.. Small stuff really. But, in the scheme of things, the small stuff is very important in establishing trust and dependability. I no longer have patience for people who are unreliable with these kind of commitments, and they get dropped from my life pretty quickly. The other part is the long term commitments. Personally I expect that people are going to change over their life and if something no longer works 10 years down the road from the time a commitment is made, then reevaluation of that commitment is in order. If some work can save it, cool, if not, then it's time to make changes. My ex-wife still throws out the "you promised to love me all my life" stuff every once in a while. Sorry.. But major things changed between taking the marriage vows and later on that I could never have foreseen. I don't feel good about dissolving this commitment, but I do feel it was the right decision.

I'll admit it takes a bit for me to give my word to something, but I do consider it something firm and a point of honor to try to keep when I do make it.

i used to think it meant everything, the past has proven me wrong tho

not nearly as important as their actions.

I am not a pretty man, nor a smart one. I have no musical talent, no trust fund, no sugar momma. I have nothing to carry me through life or define me other than my word. My honor and my word are all that I have.

If i give my word i keep it...the only things that have prevented me before is sleep....i dont sleep a whole awful lot so when i do its a good thing.....

broken promises are like white lies...

these days people throw that shit around like its nothing

one thing i don't usually do...the broken promise. Unless you really fuck up or i am hurt in some way...i come through

btw i got TWO BROKEN fingers right now

its just as rude TO ASK FOR FAVORS rather than offer help...

take it as a hint, if someone don call ya back...they don really care

A person's word to me is everything. I give the same in return , if you can't meet me 50/50, we cannot co-exist. Quite simple really.

I go with the general practice of measuring a persons actions by their words and vice verse.

Honor is very important to me.

I'll drop a freind, acquaintance, & even a family member; there is little reason to lie, or break ones word; especially to my weird ass.

If I ask you to do something, you promise to, then don't come through, unless you have a really good excuse I am going to be extremely angry, and may or may not give you a second chance. If it's something small, like forgetting you were going to call me on Thursday, I can overlook a couple of slights, but if it happens frequently I'll probably end up dropping you as a friend.

I will stick to my word, unless there is an emergency I will explain fully in detail why I could not keep plans, also all it takes is one lie,not a white lie but a bullshit lie, your first offence is your last,go find someone else to lie too,I don't have the patience and time.

I can overlook a few times myself but not everytime. My brother is famous for doing that and whenever he says he'll call I think *yea fucking right - you never call* so I expect it from him (he's a lazy fuck anyway).

All in all I really can't tolerate someone doing that (constantly) and I know in my mind if that were done to them they'd be the first person to get their nose all crooked over it.

Am I wrong???????????????????????????????

No, Sir.

I do not speak to any of my 3 half-brothers for this.

A person's word is very important.

I value it immensely.

But I don't get my hopes up until I see that they are backing up their word.

I am a believe it when I see it type.
