Scientists Vs. Engineers

One does research on the fundamentals of how things work, the other applies that to make products that we can actually use. Does one outweigh the other?

"Engineers are concerned with developing economical and safe solutions to practical problems, by applying mathematics and scientific knowledge while considering technical constraints. As such, the work of engineers is the link between perceived needs of society and commercial applications. Some consider this profession to be the link between art and science."

"A scientist, in the broadest sense, refers to any person that engages in a systematic activity to acquire knowledge or an individual that engages in such practices and traditions that are linked to schools of thought or philosophy. In a more restricted sense, scientist refers to individuals who use the scientific method The person may be an expert in one or more areas of science. Scientists include theoreticians who mainly develop new models to explain existing data and predict new results, and experimentalists who mainly test models by making measurements — though in practice the division between these activities is not clear-cut, and many scientists perform both tasks."

i think they have a symbiotic relationship so one is not better than the other imo

Only a scientist/engineer could hope to be the 'most weighty'...but even he just gets to lead his think tank.

Having worked with both, I would rather not ever work with Engineers.

Having worked with them all my life, I have to agree. Though good ones do marvelous things. Bad one"s fuck everything up.

My last conversation with an Engineer: (but it could have been just about any one of the ones I have dealt with)

Engineer: "But, it works on paper!"

Me: "Is that building made of paper or cement and steel?"

Engineer: *Dear in head lights look*

Me: "Right then, I'm going to go see what we need to do to fix this."

Engineer: "But, it works on paper!"

Should've just shipped him to China at this point.

When I was in university, those of us in 'arts' majors and those majoring in the hard sciences would always make fun of each other.

Until we saw a prospective engineer walk past.

Engineers are the people who wanted to be scientists, but couldn't cut it.

Good question.

Guy is a scientist.

His best friend's an engineer.

Sometimes, Guy breaks his ribs, just for fun.

Smart money's on science.

And I know our friend is forever complaining about quality engineers...he's an ME...I honestly don't even know the difference.

Edited to add: Guy is afraid you will think ill of him, so he has asked that I let you know he has only broken his friends' ribs twice, and neither of them were on his wedding day.
