P-51(D) Mustang's Merlin engine in WW2 had between 1500hp-1700hp. Top speed was 450ish mph. 700mph is on the cusp of breaking the sound barrier. (The piston-engined, propeller driven record is held by a heavily modified Grumman Bearcat at 528mph)
