A South Korean man has gone on a knife-wielding rampage in Seoul that has left six people dead and at least seven injured.

The man set fire to an apartment building and then attacked the residents as they fled the blaze.

Police said five of the victims were stabbed to death while another died after trying to escape by jumping from a fourth-floor window.

The 31-year-old man, identified only by his family name of Chung, was arrested.

Police said he had been out of work since April and had recently been unable to pay his rent and other bills.

"Society ignores me. I wanted to kill them all because I don't want to live," he was quoted as telling police.

Neighboring Japan has been struck by a series of random stabbings this year.

In the worst case, seven people were killed in Tokyo's Akihabara electronics district in June when a man slammed a truck into a crowd of people, jumped out and began stabbing passers-by at random.

Well...at least they were more dignified than your average American by having the balls to face their victims by using knives and not guns. As twisted as I sound when I say that, it's actually a big pet peeve I have, that's why I had to say it.

I hope this guy gets locked up for good, regardless of weapon, unjustifably killing people is wrong. The fact that he set fire to the entire building is bogus, even if he was trying to kill only people I'm guessing a lot of innocent pets died in the fire which saddens me.
