I don't really see the big deal.....

I also don't see the point of having kids go to a wedding for a field trip {gay/straight}.....

I did not catch that in the article. Perhaps it was a parent... that does not mean it was not done to promote an agenda. It just means that it was someone else's idea to exploit the children... and it seems the brides.

Children at 7 have just learned the year before to differentiate between a square and a rectangle. Yes, 7 is too young to teach complex socio-political ideals. Nor is it, I think anyway, the schools job to teach them. Thats for the parents to do.

I have no way of knowing the intent of the parent that suggested it.

I guess since I take my 7 year old, and 3 year old to my female friend's house to visit with her wife and their family, or to stay at my male friend's house with his male partner, I do not see it as too young. I also make it a point to take them to more racially diverse areas, since we live in a predominantly caucasian area, to make sure they have a chance to interact with others before they get so cognizant of the differences. I hope to move to a more diverse area soon. My children are comfortable in a variety of settings with a variety of people, and I like that. I am hetero, so it's not that I am trying to promote my lifestyle, except in the lifestyle of mutual respect for other human beings. I do not get what is so complex about that. But, you are right, that is my choice I am making for my children. I guess that really begs the question as to what information did the parents have when they gave permission? That we have no way of knowing. It is as much possible that they did not know as it is that they did know.

They teach my first grader social studies, history and current events at his school. He knows more about this coming Presidential election than I do.

I would say... that I would need to know more about each industry, but in general... kids eat meat and drink milk thats where it comes from so as a general principal no I would not mind.

Me either (as long as they stayed off of the killing floor...I just got this kid to eat meat)...but we are not Vegan...

Well let me put it this way... I have a problem with it in no way because of the sexual preferences of the people involved. I would have just as much of a problem if the teacher took her hetrosexual male fiance on a fieldtrip to city hall to watch THEM get married. They are students not your wedding guests.

Kids are just like anyone else... they learn at their own speeds.... Perhaps there is some standard somewhere that says that they "Must" know their shapes at 6 to be considered "normal" IDK

He started before then, but he's high functioning Autistic and sometimes takes awhile to understand some stuff.

I'm pretty sure both my girls had that down before they even started pre-school. Maybe at 2? Actually, knowing my oldest, she was probably before then even.

My four year old (no pre-school) has had it down for awhile now. He starts Kindergarten next fall.
