Politically motivated theft is "shocking":

Video

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — After Shawn Turschak saw two sets of McCain-Palin signs disappear from his yard within hours of being planted, he took steps to protect the latest pair.

He ran wires Monday from his house and hooked the signs into a power source for an electric pet fence. Then he mounted a surveillance camera in a nearby tree and wired it to a digital recorder.

Tuesday afternoon, the camera saw this: a neighbor trotting up with an Obama-Biden sign, grabbing a handful of volts as he touched a McCain-Palin sign and fleeing at top 9-year-old boy speed.

A few minutes later, the boy's father, Andrew Noble, was at Turschak's door, demanding an explanation from Turschak's 13-year-old daughter, who called her parents to say a man was yelling at her. Both families agree on one aspect of the exchange: Noble chastised her for "electrocuting" his son and left.

The Turschaks hurried home and received another visitor: an Orange County sheriff's deputy.

The corner of the Turschak's yard where the signs are posted is a prominent point in the Oak Crest subdivision just south of Chapel Hill, so the homeowners association maintains it.

It's far enough from the Turschaks' home that it's not obviously part of their yard, and the boy's mother, Johanna Gisladottir, said she and many neighbors thought it was community property. They were troubled, she said, that someone had apparently claimed the corner on behalf of the Republican Party.

Her son, whom she declined to name, took the Obama sign to the corner on his own, she said, after being inspired by a discussion she had with a neighbor about adding one to the mix.

Noble told an investigator his son had been trying to pull up the McCain sign so he could see how it was constructed, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.

The video, Turschak said, makes clear that the boy was planning to switch the signs.

Not all the thefts, Turschak said, could have been caused by a misunderstanding about the land. One sign had been beside his driveway, and a neighbor lost a McCain sign, too.

Turschak, who has a degree in electrical engineering, said he tested the shock on himself while wiring the signs, and did so again while a reporter watched Wednesday, touching both signs repeatedly without flinching. Under each was a yellow sign warning that they were electrified.

Turschak is registered as an unaffiliated voter and said he doesn't agree fully with either party.

"This isn't about politics," he said. "This is about my right to protect my property and my ability to display my beliefs."

Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass said he doesn't plan to file charges. The deputy who investigated Tuesday said the pet-fence setup probably was legal, Turschak said, but perhaps more trouble than it was worth. Turschak pulled the plug on the signs. The camera, though, stayed.

Wednesday afternoon, while the Turschaks were at a soccer game, it captured a woman striding up."We got home and both signs were gone," he said. "Broad daylight."

Oh thats fucking cool.

I put a McCain/Palin sign int he back window of my truck and went to Walmart. I parked and wen 2 rows away and watch. It took 15min for someone to get the balls to get in my truck and to take the sign. They were surprised when I asked them WTF they were doing in my truck and why I shouldn't call the cops.

A Grosse Pointe Farms woman has doled out political tricks by refusing Halloween treats to children whose parents support Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Shirley Nagel passed out candy Friday — but only to those who shared her support for Republican presidential candidate John McCain and running mate Sarah Palin.

Fox 2 News says a sign posted outside Nagel's house, about 12 miles west of Detroit, served notice to all trick-or-treaters. It read: "No handouts for Obama supporters, liars, tricksters or kids of supporters."

Nagel tells WJBK-TV that "Obama's scary." When asked about children who'd been turned away empty-handed and crying, she said: "Oh well. Everybody has a choice."

Fax and phone messages were left today at numbers listed in Nagel's name.

As far as I am concerned anymore, both candidates are not going to do much good concerning taxes. Both will have to raise them just to make up for the billions to bail out wallstreet. Its gotta be paid by someone up front and I think the corporations borrowing that money will hold onto it as long as they can before they pay it back. That is when I think we may see tax breaks again. Both say they will cut taxes but I think it will be very short-lived.

Thats dumb.

It's fucking HALLOWEEN.

WTF?

I know. Instead she should've taken some of the candy from the Obama supporters and distributed the wealth to kids who didn't go trick or treating.

Or maybe she could have taken it from the kids with almost no Candy and given it to the kids whos bags were overflowing... or maybe the ones who already ate all their candy and needed a bail out to refill their bags!

its all just a battle of deflation and inflation. thats what taxes and everything these days are for. the balance got fucked with the credit and housing crisis. and the bailout was a attempt to balance the equation.

Yep, yet still we will be paying for it in the long run. Taxes are going up no matter who gets into office.

Michigan allows the use of pepper spray to protect people and property. I would've sprayed them with the reasoning that I was protecting my property and believed it to be in danger of theft or vandalism.
