Woman now charged with child endangerment

MOUNT CLEMENS - A woman who fell into the Clinton River at 5:20 p.m. on Oct. 26 - along with her 21-monthold daughter, who was in a stroller - and had to be rescued by bystanders, has now been charged with one count of child endangerment. Yvette Branch, 43, whom police believe is originally from Virginia, was found by passersby struggling to swim in the water of the Clinton River in downtown Mount Clemens. The stroller that Branch was walking with, which contained her 21-month-old daughter, was also in the water.

A 21-year-old man living in Ferndale, Nicolas Eickhoss, is being credited for saving the woman and her daughter, as he jumped into the river and with the help of other bystanders, pulled the pair out.

"A gentleman swam into the water, helped get the mother out of the water," said Macomb County Sheriff's Office Capt. Anthony Wickersham.

The child was immediately taken to the hospital and was found to have no injuries.

Wickersham said that police still don't know how the woman ended up in the water, although a preliminary breath test showed that she had a blood-alcohol content reading of 0.28, which is more than three times the legal limit.

"At this point, we still don't know how, but her and the baby and stroller ended up in the water," said Wickersham.

Despite the fact that police don't know how Branch ended up in the water, she was charged with one count of child abuse in the second degree, punishable with up to four years of jail time.

"What she told us - how it happened and the evidence at the scene - didn't seem to correlate," said Wickersham.

The baby has been placed with Children's Protective Services.

Branch was arraigned on the charge at 41-B District Court in Clinton Township on Oct. 27. At press time, she was still being held at Macomb County Jail on a $7,500 bond.

...it did not say she didn't...they are apparently taking it VERY seriously...there must be a "media blockade"...so no potential jurors hear about it... ;)

btw, when did 6'4" become the official villain height?
