Even though this has not affected our shop, guarantee alot of people will be knocking on our doors for work since we are non auto related, all there is to say they definately need to do something because if the Big Three are allowed to go bankrupt it will have one hell of a catastrophic effect over the whole world, even border security will be affected as well.

auto companies owned bye the goverment. great now cars are going to cost 20 grand more in 5 years with all the mandated technology. but eh nothing else can be done.

the big 3 wont go under, giants like that are to important to the goverment. and it opens doors to own them, democrats want to jump on this chick like a rabid goth brooks. just gotta get those republicans to turn to the OTHER dark side, there is only 2 dark sides, they just differ on a few things, thats all

They are doing poorly right now but knowing a few people that work for them its may be over soon with the new crop of vehicles coming out. It will be a few years yet but if they stay afloat till then they will be in the clear. If you look at the American made cars over in Europe you would probably get pissed and ask why we don't have them over here. They have four and six-cylinder engines with turbos or supercharges that put out plenty of power and also have great efficiency as far as fuel is concerned. They also have small yet powerful diesel engines that also put out plenty of power and as far as fuel economy goes, well, it is just unbelievable. If you saw the MPG ratings of the diesel cars that America has over in Europe you would probably go beat the shit out of the Big Three for not releasing them here sooner. Just have hope and hang on because from recent news it seems like they may be back on track in a little while.

BTW, where do you work? I am in my third year of Automotive Engineering and so far finding an internship has been a disaster. I go to school at Ferris State and if your company is in Michigan you probably have at least one former student working for you in some position.

I'll post here tonight when I have an hour to compose a proper replay. I've been in the auto industry for 20 years. Suffice to say.. I've seen a lot and I have strong opinions on the current mess.

The money that will POSSIBLY be allocated to the auto industry would only be a loan, therefor they have to pay it back with specific terms that have to be abided by. Personally, I think they can pull off what the airline industry did when they filed for bankruptsy. All it does is help them to reorganize and get back to profitability. Jobs are already being shedded big time. A few more jobs lost to help the industry as a whole in the end would be better than just feeding them money that they keep bleeding out anyway. Its time to cut the head off the chicken and stop stabbing it little by little.

i think detroit situation itself is giving the sympathy card on this one. that some more job lossess just is to much in detroiters eyes.

Yep, but its nothing new in Michigan. Everyone relied too heavily on the auto industry for everything instead of moving forward into technology. The job outlet put its eggs all in one basket.
