Vows of silence

So this guy and I are going to do this soon for sprititual reasons. We both have 3 days off with NO HUMAN contact necessary soon and wanted to do it in sync.

My take is that it is to get one 'out of the influence' of worldly pursuits and more 'into oneself' so...no typing online either. Its not just about not talking out loud.

He thinks it only pertains to talking out loud and that it would be ok to type online still...

Anyone ever do this? I have done it before but it was a long time ago before I had my puter and vice versa...and my take is NO COMMUNICATION no notes...nothing but a smile or nodd or cough.

I would never take a vow of silence, I always give my 2 cents whether people want it or not, it's one of the challenges I have being a submissive

hmm thats interesting...my dom likes it when I whimper, coarse he is a sadistic s.o.b.

=P

he HATES it when I am quiet...

My first dom insisted on silence...so it was hard to switch.

i'm almost sure that monks that have taken vows of silence still communicated via the written word

Yeah, but I don't think they were supposed to write to each other, at least, not at first, and not for an immediate response. I thought the idea was to limit communication such that 1) only the minimum signification necessary for the exigency of immediate practical matters and 2) quiet, meditative and sober response to a line of religious or philosophical questioning, be permitted. If it isn't prayer, it's work. If it isn't work, it's prayer. Posting in DGN would, for the most part, especially in the quizzes and polls forum, be most antithetical to that.

Agreed...when the OLD time Sages went to Hermitage...they did not bring a scroll & ink nor the weapons of the hunt...they just found a cave & foraged for food & wood to burn...
