I dont celebrate christmas, thanksgiving, easter and anyother holidays I deem pointless or just a money grab.

What holidays do you bypass?

I like the gratitude implied by Thanksgiving - even if some of the traditions don't work for me any more. I'd like to forget Christmas, but that's hard to do when you have kids and everyone else insists on giving them stuff, especially their mom. Valentines can go suck it. Same with Easter. Same with every other lame excuse to guilt us in to spending more money that we don't have.

let me rephrase this, the only actual "holiday" I celebrate is Thanksgiving, All the rest not at all, that doesn't mean I don't believe in there significance, it just means I am not big into celebrating.. period.

...i only really get into the festivities of Halloween. i eat turkey and stuff but i dont pray thanks. I do give gifts but not in the spirit of it being the 'birthday' of christ.

Thanksgiving is just a day with a big meal, with lots of leftovers.

Christmas is the only day that my family can get away with being neglectful. I don't get shit for Christmas from most of my family... And since my birthday is so close, I usually get the combined gift. "this is for Christmas and your birthday" I'm sorry, if i had a kid, even on Christmas, they'd still get separate gifts. I swear... fucking excuses.. anything to get out of getting me stuff...

Halloween is the only one I enjoy. I try to do something on the Sabbats and Esbats... and that's about it...

Originally it was desighned to give orphans candy on that day. It disappeared and Hallmark had a lull that time of year on card sales so sweetestday was reinvented. But Im a romantic and still celebrate it when in a relationship. I love all holidays.

I haven't had a good experience with holidays... nothing but disapointment. except with the Sabbats and Esbats... I respect that others celebrate them... just don't expect me to, UNLESS its really important to someone. what pisses me off is that people want you to spend money on them, and when you don't they get upset. I'll be lucky to get anyone anything this year, and that will ONLY be because my roommates are gonna help me. I don't even have the money to buy stuff to make people something... I'll be lucky yo get anything for my bithday (not bitching about that, I really do feel lucky!)! lol so that's why I feel the way that I do..

Same here... damned combination gifts were just a cheap way of getting dealing with what the other kids wanted (how the hell did my younger brother get an NES game system for christmas, and all I got was a couple of tapes?)

My birthday was very conveniently forgotten by family, including parents, on more than a few years (with the favorite sister saving the day partially by remembering.) I got so fed up with being forgotten on birthdays I blew up (one of the few times I have ever had a dreaded "temper flash" that *wasn't* brought about by assault on women or children,) at everyone. Now when the stepmother sends out things at this time, they are sent in different envelopes.

So, Holidays I celebrate:
• Thanksgiving (hey, it's the turkey and the napping.)
• My Birthday
• New Years Eve/Day
• Veteran's Day
• Memorial Day
• Halloween

Holidays I don't celebrate:
• Pretty much everything else. I tend to pull call on christmas and thanksgiving, just to have an ace to pull when scheduling call.
• The family's individual birthdays (last order from Dad regarding the family: No gift giving until you finish training; there are too many of them.)

See I celebrate all the holidays, even the relgious ones. I'm not particularly religious but thats how I was raised. I don't spend money on anyone either seeing as I make my own gifts, and yarn is rather cheap. Kids these days expect to much at the holidays, like they are entitled to so much just because of the day. I'd rather be with my family and know they love me then to get stuff.

I dont do sweetest day either.

The other ones I do because for me its family based. I've grown up in a family that loves to get together and just be together for that day. Not to mention dinner is a mighty fine plus

Oh and easter is ok but I think that's more fun for the kiddies then the adults

I try not to celebrate any holiday, but unfortunately I get dragged into it by family and those I care about.

I get nervous/anxious when I have too much free time e.g. 4 days off in a row. Unfortunately for me, it's going to happen three times in two months this year.. some years, I can get away with it only being turkey day. Last year, I spent Thanksgiving flying out to San Francisco, only to turn right around and drive back with my ex. He wanted to move back home.

Winter Holidays.. I seem to be more down.. probably because we lack sunshine in these parts during that time of year, and I absolutely hate late January/February.. and it makes me nervous every year to have to go through those months.
