vampvoluptuous Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 Hello darklings, Sadly it appears there wil be no Dark 80's night at Mephisto's on January 3rd. In fact we just learned from an employee that Mephisto's will be closed for weeks. We thank all of you who came to our event and wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Love, Vamp Voluptuous, Kitty Lectro, and everyone at Dark80s.com
taysteewonderbunny Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 That's so sad. I've never been, but was hoping to since I'm taking some time off of school. Bummer.

Guest greyhalo Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I am seriously bummed about this. I was looking forward to going again in January. Thanks for all of your efforts, vamp and kitty. Please let us know if you're going to do something similar at another venue in the future. *crosses fingers*
kittylectro Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 hmm.. depressing. agreed. any bar that decides to be closed during the holidays, especially nye, is likely going through some issues. it's too bad, i wish them well, it's an interesting place with a lot of character and the owner and the bartenders are very friendly. the drinks are good too. greyhalo, you've been very sweetly talking us up from the start and it will always be very appreciated, thank you. Vampy V ... every bit of my love i'll be back sometime in the future with my post punk disco junk, we'll let you know. thanks again to everyone who showed up.
Scary Guy Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 As the resident view into the owners psyche.... he likes his vacation time. I was hoping he'd be open on Friday, and we ended up going to The Berkley Front instead to visit my friend Lyle that works there. The first time it was open through the NYE season I had to beg them to open and it fell on deaf ears. I said it would pack the place and they didn't listen. The second time they actually did it and I was right and got to rub it in his face until his skull showed. Of course he still closed for a week after. Not that the reasons really matter, but they are nice to know. The only options you really have are A. Deal with the bullshit B. find another venue. Please do keep me posted. In a way I might be working that night anyway so i could have been screwed anyway... we'll see.
Joey Deadcat Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Kicking myself for myself fo missing the last one. Hopefully, you'll find a different venue.
kittylectro Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 thanks for the perspective and the advice, scary guy, it is appreciated. thanks to everyone else who supported the event in any way as well, this definitely includes mephisto's. i can definitely empathize with needing vacation time. maybe it's good to have a month off or whatever. Vamp Voluptuous certainly needs a break. Vamp is a WONDERFUL woman who worked VERY hard to organize and promote this event. She doesn't need any more incidents with someone rushing her in a parking lot, practically assaulting her, trying to get into fistfight with her, screaming insults and obscenities and threats in her face, snatching fliers for both the dark 80s night and xilla toxic's show away from her and ripping up said fliers in her face, calling her "fat bitch", and kicking her car. i digress ... it was a pleasure to play music i love in a cool town, among people i am fond of, i'd do it again anytime. thanks for having me, detroit, you're a very fun place.

Wait what? I've heard of this type of stuff happening at City Club, but where did this happen at? Feel free to PM if you don't want to spread it around. I'd really like to not attend that club ever again.

Reaper Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Dammit, I had all week off and wanted to check out Mephistos for once.

I'm very put off by how this poor woman was attacked for no good reason.

I suppose it's time that I make a statement about this. As I am newer to promoting shows I have had several years as a patron to see how things are done. I have been a long time patron of this establishment. 17 years to be exact. I have always loved going there and have brought many, many people because of my love of this place. I partially enjoy friday nights because the music is more to my liking and I like it a bit less busy. As I was fliering the parking lot I was approached by parking lot security and was told nicely that I was not allowed to flier the parking lot. This was a big shock to me because I have had fliers on my car MANY times over the years and didn't realize this was a issue. Also this was the 3rd or 4th time I had done this and was never told by ANYONE that this was not permitted. I certainly would NOT have done this if I knew. I apologized to the parking lot staff and was calmly REMOVING the fliers. As I was doing so I was rush upon by a employee and was being screamed at and as kitty said, having fliers ripped up in my face. I felt VERY threatened and said that I was sorry and I had no idea that this was a issue. As I was walking to my car I continued to be yelled at and was feeling more and more threatened. This is not something I am used to. It's not my nature to fight nor to have someone make me feel threatened. As you can imagine I was VERY upset I was doing what was asked of me and I was attacked for it. I am trying to put all of this behind me as I am not one to hold grunges against a establishment, or their employees that I have enjoyed for so many years. It saddens me. I have to say tho I am unsure if I will ever feel at home or feel the good vibes I used to get attending there.

Onyx Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Damn! I had no idea either. I've had them on my car many many times. I thought they were a great way to find out what's going on, especially last minute things. I like getting fliers like that. If nobody supports the scene (even competing nights and clubs) the scene WILL die. It's happened many places. They are cutting their own throat.
vampvoluptuous Posted January 2, 2009 Author Posted January 2, 2009 Sorry. I don't want to go on Fridays anymore because this happened. It saddens me too. Please don't let this stop you from going on Friday's that was not my intent on posting this.
Guest greyhalo Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Please don't let this stop you from going on Friday's that was not my intent on posting this. It's MY choice.
kittylectro Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Please don't let this stop you from going on Friday's that was not my intent on posting this. i totally agree with this. it's good to support your goth/industrial/alternative nights, otherwise they'll disappear.
Scary Guy Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 i totally agree with this.it's good to support your goth/industrial/alternative nights, otherwise they'll disappear. But that's what I'm going for (although my reasons aren't in any way related to this drama). Either improve the building or tear it down. We as a scene should have higher standards than this. But you all know my gripes on this issue. And you're absolutely right. Not supporting the nights will make them go away. So I really should not be arguing about this and supporting CC, even if I do hate it. If anything it's at least something to piss off the norms. I hate the norms even more than I hate the fakes. Whatever you're all pinks and either members of the Con or unknowing agents of the Con. /mini subgenius rant.
kittylectro Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Are you scouting other venues? the unfortunate incident detailed above happened at city club, not mephisto's, just want to make that clear. Vamp V is in charge of venues and stuff, but i'd personally like to remain at mephisto's, the place is dark and cozy with great drinks. again, please don't let this keep any of you from supporting cc on fridays or any other night. if you don't support your goth/industrial/alternative club nights they will go away and you'll be stuck with top40 and/or a sports bar as a replacement.
kittylectro Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 did anyone have any of the ring lollipops shaped like halloween monsters?
wilhelm k Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 we will be having guest dj's at dead-line, if either of you are interested please let me know. the way we will have it set up is that the guest dj's get the back room to themselves.
