Yeah, I live with a couple of "fine teens" who really don't have any sense of accountability, responsibility or fear of ramifications. They BRAZENLY challenge all authority that "gets in their way." And our kids are "good by comparison" to most, but a far, far cry from the disciplined, respectful, hard working type of kid I was growing up. People should realize that kids don't have rights to privacy when on school property. Most of the time, its right in the student handbook.

As for kids taken nudes of themselves, it IS a violation of the law. Kids shouldn't be allowed to skip out on the law, just because they're kids.

When she begged her parents to send her to another school...they refused

My younger cousin goes to that school and he got it.

Unless it falls off their records at 18, these kids will not be able to have any sort of life. No college will accept them, finding a job will be difficult, if not impossible, and no community will want them living there. All because they sent some naked pictures to each other as teens? I'm all for making them understand that there are consequences for stupid behavior, but there's a reason we don't punish children the same way we do adults.

The sex offender list could be too harsh...however I think that after years of no action at all in respose to shit like this it may be a good example. Yeah, generation "Why me?!?!" is starting to piss me off. I grew up having my parents basically force me to take responsibility for my actions. Now I thank them for that. However, my friends and cousins coudl basically do whatever the fuck that they wanted. My friends were stealing shit, their parents knew, and all they said was "if you get caught we can only afford bail once". My cousing was caught shoplifting twice, did the nude pitctures thing, and got one guy in prison for having sex with her when she was 14. My aunt and uncle seemed like they could care less each time and it came as a fucking suprise to them when she turned to hard drugs and had to be put into an institution. She is out now and better but it left one hell of a mark on her parents and left them in the gutter as far as money goes. Almost every week I get a new story about someone I knew getting in horrible trouble, yet I never hear the part where they take the blame or recieve punishment. Others are getting in trouble and seem totally shocked when they are confronted.

Fuck, I am sick of all the pampering. Really, bubble-boy is not far off. Yes, some of the shit I do is illegal but in the end I know about the problems that it could bring me and for everything I do there is a price that I could have to pay. I have paid a few times before and it really wasn't that bad. It didn't hurt or anything...I actually felt better about myself. I still don't know about the sex offender list but shit they should make a new list. Maybe these girls didn't mean any harm...but that is mostly because they are ignorant. They put this shit out there and because of that many other people could get into horrible trouble because these girls thought it would be funny putting this out there, not knowing that they are just baiting.

perhaps a good lawyer will drop the charges to something else. im not a lawyer and dont know the law on this matter.

i do think the judge will throw this around. and just send them to there parents or to do community survice. the mental punishment of letting it goto trial is enough, plus the media exposure.

Yeah, a lot of the reasons for being put on the sex offender list are unfair, but:

1) It's not going to change without enough examples that draw outrage from the public;

and:

2) That's another topic.

And yes, whether it's deserved or not, just from what I've seen on this board, being labled a sex offender is one of the worst punishments one can receive. In our culture of snap judgements, most people don't even give them a chance to explain themselves.

Complain about this all you want but in the end something needs to be done about this shit and this is one more example that could be made...but probably won't. Students have to read and sign rule handbooks every year. Every handbook I ever read had a clause allowing search of personal effects, with or without reason. This would include cell phones, imo.

Here's some good advice, leave the damn things at home. If you don't need it for school, don't bring it to school.

As for cops going through cell phones, I've never seen nor heard of it. But anything found on it would be inadmissible in court unless they had a warrant, so who cares? Just sue the guy for invasion of privacy.
