What bothers me, apart from the horrific crime, are the comments at the end of the article. Everyone seems to be advocating that when the police find a suspect, they simply gun him or her down without a trial!

An elderly couple was beaten — one person fatally — in their west-side home in Detroit sometime between late Sunday afternoon and Monday afternoon, police said today.

Relatives, concerned that they hadn’t heard from the 87-year-old man and 82-year-old woman in 24 hours, went to their home on the 7400 block of Churchill around 4 p.m. today and found the front door unlocked and the two senior citizens severely beaten, Detroit Police spokeswoman Eren Stephens Bell said. The house was ransacked.

The man was dead and the woman, who was rushed to a local hospital, is in critical condition, according to investigators.

The victims’ names have not been released. Public records show Nathaniel and Dorothy Neal as residents of the home.
