Minuvweyna Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Greetings all, My boyfriend and I live in Edinburgh, but will be visiting Detroit in April, and are looking for a good Goth nightclub or Goth/Industrial event at a more mainstream nightclub. We are primarily looking for something to do on either Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, on 16, 17, or 18 April. A friend has told me about Detroit City Club; would that be the place to go? Before I drag a bunch of boots, corsets and kilts through airport security, I figured I'd see if there was anyplace to dress up and go dancing on the other end! Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide. Best Wishes, Elspeth

Minuvweyna Posted January 22, 2009 Author Posted January 22, 2009 This http://www.detroitgothic.net/index.php?showtopic=27147 may be of use to you. Thank you so much, that is exactly the info I needed! On a second note, is Circus Obscene at The Ritz actually a Goth event? From the photos I found it looks to be rather more focused on the fetish scene (which is fine;) but is it a good place for dancing, since I'm not personally all that much of a fetishist? Thank you again, Elspeth
Joey Deadcat Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 More and more I long for the Carpe Mortem and Labyrinth days then you'd be all set. However, if you were coming in on a Wednsday...

Thank you again, Elspeth The Circus Obscene night does do goth things, but it does a lot of other things too (and as far as actual goth music you can forget about it except maybe on the DGN ngiht. Maybe if you beg for Sisters a lot they'll play it, but from what I've seen Industrial/EBM is as close as you'll get). However it does have a pretty large dance floor (about 1/2 the size of City Club's, but that one is HUGE so there is plenty of room. The layout is great too with the dancefloor/bar areas. The Evil Fish can tell you much more about it than I can though and even though he does talk the promoter talk he's very honest about it which I respect. Personally I prefer the Dead-Line night, but that's because the DJ plays all of my requests (seeing as how I'm the DJ and I play whatever I want, within reason of course).

DJ Nocker Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Bummer your not coming out on wednesday for Dead-Line.. other than that you could go to the Circus thursday, I dont really care for it music wise but the atmosphere is prety cool. Fridays are a better night to go to city club for music, but for being social go on saterday.
