WARWICK, R.I. — A Providence man who abandoned nearly 300 rats on the side of a road has been ordered to pay $1,000 restitution and perform 50 hours of community service.

Toby Duffany pleaded no contest on Wednesday to animal abandonment.

Authorities say the 22-year-old Duffany left 280 rats crammed into aquariums and cages by the side of a Foster road last month. By the time they were discovered Dec. 30, the animals had been there several days, 72 were dead and the survivors had resorted to cannibalism.

The living rats were euthanized by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Duffany said in court he got rid of the rats because they could not live in his apartment with his new baby.

An RISPCA official tells The Providence Journal the punishment was disappointing.

I found a good site for weird news, here......

O.M.F.G.!!!!

Guy better be glad that I can't get ahold of him. I'd strap him in a chair, cover him with ranch dressing (my rats Mugen and Yang love them some ranch dressing) and let my little critters go to TOWN on him while I sit in the corner and cackle insessantly.

You'd like to think I'm joking, but I'm not, I so seriously would do it and love it if I knew I could get away with it. Anyone that can do that type of shit to animals or children, I fantasize about torturing them slowly to death.

May I recommend watching/reading 1984? The rats cage on the face scene would probably be most satisfying.

I was thinking of that movie. I don't know the name of it but it involved a rat/bucket/blowtorch on a guy's stomach. The rat gets too hot and has to eat his way out right down through the guy's stomach.

My shitty aunt forced me to watch Pit and the Pendulum when I was 7 (my Boshy being very FURIOUS upon finding this out) even when I insisted that I didn't want to watch it and that I didn't think it was right for a grown woman to try to coarse me into lying to my Boshy and betraying her orders (it's funny because at 7 I'm more mature than my aunt is, even now). I believe, to the best of my memory since it was seared into my frontal lobe, in that movie they tie down a guy underneath a pendulum that has an axe on it, and all the while rats are chewing away at him. Messed upness.

"New baby"... wonderful. I'm sure this dude is just as responsible a parent as he is a pet owner.

If this worthless dickwad HAD to abandon the poor beasties, why the bloody hell couldn't he have just LET THEM GO instead of leaving them crammed into tanks?
