Rayne Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Phee can't climb on the roof (still on heavy restriction from his ankle surgery) ... and there's no way in hell I can do it. Ack.
TomCat Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 Be Very Careful if you going to use a roof rake. A) It's going to fall on/near you. B) you don't want to damage the shingles. a quick fix is to fill some old pantyhose with calcium chloride. fill up an old leg or two. tie em off. Lay them perpendicular to the gutters to create a couple channels to alleviate the melt-runoff water. It's really an insulation issue. Try to "break up the gutter/roof line in thirds, to allow the melt water a place to runnoff. End runoff runoff runoff end l__________I_I_______I_I_______I_I_______________l
TitsMcGee Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 heat wave fixed it. We'll see once I get to grams if it's really fixed it.
Bernadette Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 The CaCl does help. And this week after the rain goes thru and hopefully all the ice has melted from the roof, it's a good idea to throw the tablets or CaCl that's in pebble form or do the pantyhose method that TomCat explained up on the roof and in the gutters -- to prevent the damming from occurring again. Cuz winter isn't quite over.
