Original design costume. The skirt needs some help, and I need different stockings and to lose some weight. BUT, I like the first attempt to explore a new style. What else can I add to it to make it more Steamy??

Perhaps a wide-brimmed "picture hat," trimmed with big, curly ostrich plumes and veiling-- that matches the bolero jacket, bodice and corset? And a chemise trimmed in Brussels lace, for the edge to peek out over the top of the bodice..oh, and long, dark-coloured gloves..and some cool bracelets made from leather and odds and ends, made to look like utility wrist gadgets..Ooooh, and a cool chatelaine, with lots more interesting little gadgets hanging from it!! And maybe, a pair of silky white bloomers, with a bit of Brussels lace at the cuff, to peek out from beneath the hip skirt..I'd go with solid white or black stockings, and leather stocking garters (not a suspender belt, but old-fashion buckle garters)! I think a little more leather, lace, and a few gewgaws are just what you need to set the costume off! ;)

P.S. What have you got on, as far as footwear? I can't tell from the photo.

Being Steampunk, gear is a must. There are some great how-to guides here...

I agree. Part of the big thing about steampunk to me is not only the basic garments but in the little details. Brass pocket watches and little brass era doodads and "technology". :yes

Personally, I think the skirt should be longer and maybe the coat should have some manner of tails? I dunno... That's just my preference.

I'm loving your hair. Cuteness!

you look nice in a corset ;)

I think the skirt needs a black underlayer to it cause it looks oddly cropped.

Ohhhh awesome ideas! The boots are a slouchy black leather with brass D ring straps and a wedgie heel. They're very steam punkish, bt the photographer cut them out for some reason. *sigh*

It's a "saloon" style hip skirt so it's actually an apron with a bum ruffle. I think Jinxie's idea of bloomers is awesome though so will try that.

Either a hat, or a "fascinator", a parasol (id have to go looking, but theres a company that makes drool-worthy umbrellas) perhaps keys or a chain watch, gloves of some sort..... hmm.... definately some jewelry.

A Fighter pilot hat!!! When ever I think of Steampunk I can't help but visualize it.

NavLeather.JPG

Or if you are going the ultra fem route, make a small gun holster for your thigh, get an old look water gun and paint it brass/with Silver detail, and wear it just below where your skirt comes up =) Sexy! I also think a long, white (puffy) shirt would look good under the corset.

Example. Steampunk%20at%20the%20Telectroscope%20a

White fishnet gloves would be darling!

Earth tones.

Awesome ideas, thanks everyone!!

Spook: I DO NOT wear earth tones, so I'm trying to do it in colors and silver/black and get the same feel. Of course I'd have to be contrary.

IMO, it's just not Steampunk without a little bit of sepia somewhere. =P A brass accessory should fix that though. :w00t:

Nicely done, Nienna! You look exquisite. :)

I especially like the corset combo.

OMG that's awesome Leslie!!! I was pondering your black and silver look, and here's an accent idea for your jacket you had on..

You know, like add some fancy buttonage, I agree with the hat or goggles, I saw some that were way cool in the silver/black theme you were going for.

Here's some Steampunk B&W looks you may wanna snip from ;)

I love the mini-hats. SO cute!!!!

As I was mentioning the goggles in black and silver :)

Maybe add a few silver skeleton keys? I found some on ebay..they're AWESOME!!! (instead of a watch if you can't afford a good looking one, maybe keys on the chain?

I second the hat... except one of those flowerpot-looking Whitechapel prostitute hats would be even cooler... the gloves (with buttons!) and bracelets, the chatelaine (w/skeleton keys, clockwork bits, vintage souvenir spoons), dark stockings, and the leather garters.

Lots of great suggestions in this thread already.

You've got a great start. I don't think you need different stockings, I LOVE my stripes with my steampunk. Nor do I think you need to lose weight, but that's not on me to say.

I would embellish the jacket or switch it for another with a more victorian shape or military style, thrift stores are good for that just look for black jackets with poufy shoulders or epaulets and you'll find one eventually. And maybe try adding a long shredded black tulle skirt under the bustled skirt. That way you still get the stripes and the leg, but look a little less bare and more balanced. You could try a pair of bloomers, but they're harder to find/make quickly.

Goggles or hat would help it look more complete.

GypsyLadyHats are my favorite hats. Totally worth every penny.
