Hooray for tact! :p (I mean, for starting a new thread)

But on topic....

There are too many religions that over the ages have killed people for not being like them.

I am a religious person, but mine doesnt advocate violence for religious reasons.

No I really am an asshole for starting the thread in the first place.

Does your religion advocate annoying them until they join? Because I hate those too.

More innocent people have died in the name of (name a god here) than for any other reason in the history of the human race.

The sad part is, most people are brainwashed, er I mean, "converted" when they are children and taught, not to question god's words. Don't question the bible.

I remember as a kid going to church (yea, I was forced to go) and I would ask questions about the bible that, no one could answer or - I was always told, that's just how god does things.

Bullshit!

Anywhoz...........I honestly think the world could do without religion.

All of them because too many nut cases want to control and kill in the name of................

..the bible is a mish mash of legend, myth, & visions...supposedly divinely inspired.

...& somewhat stolen bit now & again...the thing is that it tries to teach something...so do those visions..they were just bent to the ego of some asshats.

I think some people would kill in the name of staplers if that wanted to. Sometimes religion is just an excuse.

Mmmhmm, South Park definately already has addressed this issue, accurately (as always) might I add.

The athiests end of killing each other off in the end, I believe, haven't seen it in awhile but I'm pretty sure that's what ends up happening.

Monkeys are monkeys and are violent, whether you're throwing in a God or not.

The underlying problem is the street cred that you get for believing some grand concept without adequate evidence. In most realms of thought you get the intellectual backhand for buying into something without evidence.

In the religious realm you get bonus points for accepting something as given for no good reason. You get more respect for being intentionally ignorant than you do for being inquisitive. Quite a backward way of viewing the world. This kind of thinking is largely due to that black hole known as the dark ages. (which did have bits of light here and there but still.. it was an asinine chapter in western history) Luckily the Renaissance and the Enlightenment have won the battle there (if not the war) and still hold this type of ignorance at bay.

Good for us this "belief without evidence" on SO many subjects its not taken to its extreme like it was in ye olden days. But this too is negative from a hypocrisy standpoint, since at least back in the day they had the balls to act according to their religions all the way around, not just picking and choosing which stuff to believe or ignore. If it gets really uncomfortable to follow the original teachings (either because modern ethics finds their beliefs horrific, or science finally puts down the dead dog with overwhelming evidence.) they just morph the teaching into allegory and change the meaning of the earlier [infallible] teaching altogether as not being the "true" revelation.

Unfortunately it so widespread that you tend to lose friends and close a lot of doors for even suggesting that a [traditional] understanding of religion is flawed. The good news is that traditional religion for the most part has been scurrying away from vast swaths of its unfounded or just plain wrong ideas for ages, converting into a more "hands off" version of themselves, contorted out of shape so much that many of them are better though of as secular, non-religious philosophies.
