Got back in at 10pm after doing a 6 hour yard detailing session. Now I'm about to make some tea and try to get into a relaxed mindset as I have to chauffeur later today so I should be getting ready to turn in in a bit.

Fish scale.

In a couple hours I'm going to meet up with a friend and go for a walk in nature. I've been trying to hang out with her more, and I need to clear my head. A win-win.

I'm about to film and HOPEFULLY this time the LIGHTING AND SOUND are actually DECENT!

 *insert lots of grumbling here*

About to fall into some lunch...

About to get ready to chauffeur to Saint Clair Shores.

Posted

Being off of work, ruminating on my broken ass future. Or compulsively finding odds and ills to occupy my time so I don't think at all lol.

About to get ready to head out to help with this sleep study.

Got back in from the sleep study assist a little bit ago.  Now I'm about to get some breakfast and take a nap.  That experience was exhausting.

I am about to go donate plasma, but first I have to pick out which vampire inspired outfit is the least suspicious XD

I'm about to shut down to install some computer hardware upgrades.

I may or may not hop distros during this process too.

About to go pull stuff to the curb for bulk pickup.

Then I need to start a new To-Do list.  There are a lot of things that need to be addressed and handled.

I swear I'll get to it today (five days later.)

Two of the screws were stuck together at the heads and now I need to dig for a replacement at the correct thread pitch, size, and spacing.  I also need to take a photo to leave on the Amazon review.

You must be a linux user. What distro are you going to switch to? I've been on Arch for nearly two years full time but I've used a few versions of Ubuntu in the past.

About to get started on product orders.

About to make some tea, some breakfast and then hopefully finish some writing and do some CAD drafting.

I'm strongly thinking PCLinuxOS, though I'm currently on Regolith (Ubuntu) mainly so I can use dumb PPAs and I think Steam / the Valve Index might like it better.  But it looks very comfy too and SystemDicks can go fuck itself.

Hey I happen to like systemd. It works fine on my setup - but then again I wasn't using linux much before everyone started using it. Steam will definitely support Ubuntu better but I think Valves support on all Linux distros is pretty great right now, except *maybe* on stale stuff like Debian Stable.

About to give this day another try.

https://nosystemd.org This is the hill I will die on.  It's too bloated and...  Well just read the link as it contains everything I'd say anyway (as a bonus https://flatkill.org is fun too!)

It's less about Steam than it is about the Index.  Steam would work fine, but I paid $1K for this glitchy piece of hardware (granted if I ran Windows it might actually work but fuck Windows) and I'd rather have it be glitchy than a total paperweight.  I'd probably have to manually compile drivers or something to get it to even work.

Not that I'm even using it at the moment because the cooling in my system is inadequate and if I try it will melt itself.  I really need to get these car radiator fans working...

okay while I disagree with you on systemd, I agree with you on flatpaks and snaps. They suck. Just give me normal packages please. It's just better.

It's wild to me that Valve's recent Linux obsession and their work on the Steamdeck (I love mine, I just don't game as much anymore) hasn't trickled to the Index. Wasn't that supposed to be their Vive and Quest killer? I love the quality of Valve's hardware - say what you want about the Steam Link and the Steam Controller, but those are rock solid. They just fall so flat when it comes to making things that people want to use (turns out trackpads suck) and also software support. Thank god the Steamdeck is actually worth it.

I didn't say anything about Snap, but I did manually uninstall the entire system and put on Firefox as a proper package (as it should be.)

I do like .appimage though a lot.  Probably the best of of the three.

As far as Index goes, no one gives a shit about VR anymore.  It's all about AI now.  Still I'm hoping they come out with another headset that fixes all the complaints people had with the old one.
