This is a link to a program they are having in Me kids school, for K-3rd grade... I opted to have my boy sit out... I think I was the only parent who did so

I suppose it is a good thing for kids w/ parents who won't discuss this w/ them.. Personally, I can take care of this Meself...

I think that children this young should not be taught about these things. If parents want them to that's fine, but I'm glad that you had a choice to take him out.

That would be a hard choice. That would have to be a conversation I would have to have with my husband when I get married and have children.

I think I remember this from when *I* was a kid - this has been around forever. I dunno...didn't fuck me up. ;)

I just hope you didn't set off any red lights by not letting your son see it. Schools can be dumb as bricks with that kind of thing, and I wouldn't be surprised if they took that to mean you wouldn't want your kid to learn something from the program... :/:/:/ stupid schools......

I sent them E-Mails explaining how I felt.. & Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, but I have no worries about it...

:no ..not this time! Imagine the hella-ba-loo if O_M_G missed the message they sent home about it...that would have NOT been pretty...they did not ASK...they TOLD...that there would be an assembly...not so cool to me..on a point of principal.

Frankly, if I was a parent I would have done the same thing. I'm a firm believer that it should be up to the parents to discuss this type of thing with their children. Although I still remember the awkward sex talk with my parents...a month after I lost the big V.

:X They were late!

Yeah..I think the program is just fine..for parents that don't have time..the mental capacity...the courage..or the fore-thought to have talks of this nature with the children...even I think that allot of parents are lazy.

Just seems wierd as all get up to me...

Ooooooooohhh.... the subtle yet important distinction between 'ask' and 'tell'...the 'informing' aspect is there but not the consent... I see. D:

I was spoken to as a young child...around 4-5 about sexual assault.

By my parents.

And It kept me safe....

So it really should be discussed with young children because there are pedo's out there and it is a very effective way to prevent assault by informing your kids.

But it should be a personal thing between parents....and I'm glad you opted out.

That's for you to discuss with your children.

OMG, if you don't mind, could you post the email (you can black out the name of your child and school and such)

you sent.

I'm very interested to read your perspective.

As for me, I respect everyone's opinion and personal choice, but my thought is the more sources that want to ingrain

this in children's heads, the better.

Kids need to know this is wrong and most parents are either too scared to teach it to their kids or don't know the right time.

Same thing for comprehensive sex education.

I would have no problem discussing sex or sexual abuse with a child, but I certainly don't mind if a school would like to act with positive reinforcement.

Reinforcement doesn't always help.

No school ever helped me.

And my father and mother took care of it.

Trust Her...its her kid.

I don't have a copy of it :X

It was short & sweet.. I just expressed the fact that I have, and continue to discuss the subject with my child...

& That I looked into the program, but it did not suit me.. I expressed the fact that I thought it was great that they were helping parents cover the subject, but I feel it is my right & responsibility to take care of it.. I also thanked them for being such a wonderful staff ect..ect...

I defiantly wish the subject was covered with Me, when I was a child.. I was the victim of sexual assault for many years as a small child... I did not know any better, because nobody told me it was bad

So, as you could imagine, I have that subject covered ;)

Really, I just don't like the program.. I don't want pedo-bear teaching my kid about this.. It creeps Me out

Tank you. That makes a LOT of sense.

Oh, and :grouphug

I completely understand your reasoning here, and I agree that it's best if the parents cover this topic, but I don't think the program sounds harmful for anyone. I don't remember anything about bears, but I remember being talked to sexual assault issues somewhere around first grade in school, as well as at home.

There are a lot of clueless parents out there. Kudos to you for not being one.
