Simon Bar Sinister Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 for those of you who are members of one, what are your likes and dislikes about them? thx
TitsMcGee Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I love my credit union, mainly for the fact that I can deposit money into any credit union in the state and it'll be put into my account without any hassles. I also love the fact that I can goto any credit unions ATM and not pay fees to take money out.
torn asunder Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 i greatly dislike the idea that if i have cash in my hand, and want to open a savings account, they want to know all my bills, including my mortgage & credit cards, before they'll even consider letting me open an account... it's a savings account - my bills are none of your damn business!!

See I didn't have that problem, but I opened my account when I was 7.
torn asunder Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 See I didn't have that problem, but I opened my account when I was 7. then your parents/whoever helped you open it probably did. or else things were different a while back!?
TitsMcGee Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 then your parents/whoever helped you open it probably did. or else things were different a while back!? nope I opened it all by myself. Maybe federal credit unions do that type of stuff, but I've never heard of just a regular hometown one doing it.
hunhee Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I love my credit union, it's been mine since I was 16 and worked for the county. Holy crap!!! I've had that account 16 years. Anyway, since I had been a member for so long, my ex, when we split, had no problems opening up his own account at my credit union. I am used to their policies, and have rarely been screwed over by them. Which is not what I can say for Fifth Third (when they were Old Cunt err..Kent) and National City... *groans* but they're defo not credit unions.
TygerLili Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I loved my credit union I had my account with in Lansing, because they were very convenient and helpful, but they were only in Lansing. I joined one out here when I moved in 2004 and hated it. They had more rules than a regular bank, and none of the perks I was used to from my other credit union, so I ended up closing my account and going to a regular bank. So 50/50 here.
StormKnight (1) Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I have had my credit union account from when I was stationed in Bethesda (Navy Federal.) I have a savings and checking account there. Our detatchment was authorized to start accounts there, legacy stuff that I had while I was in service. They haven't botched anything bad yet. *knocks wood* And the rates on some of the products they offer are a little better than elsewhere I have shopped for.
