right, so i asked this on another forum and now i ask here, though i expect that since we seem to have a fair amount of creative types it might be somewhat pointless. i was musing that poetry seems to be something of a dying art and id like to know what you think of it.

do you read poetry?

do you write it?

have you/would you attend a poetry reading?

discuss. :grin

do you read poetry? Sometimes I do.

do you write it? Sometimes I do.

have you/would you attend a poetry reading? No. Unless I was dragged along by a gf. :laughing

I don't believe it's a dying art. No form of art ever really "dies". It will have it's ups and downs just like anything. Everything comes and goes. It's only on a brief decline at the moment. Give it a few years and a new generation will discover it and they will have the world thinking that it was just created the day before. Mark my words.

anyone else wanna chime in here?

I read it sometimes, I write it sometimes, but in reality my stuff really is just song lyrics as I'm sorting out my life. I dont really know anything about poetry, but I do love honest self expression of any sort....even cooking to me is an art form (I cant cook).

It's obvious that I read and write a lot of it. It's all TA's fault.

I'm a old school coffee house gen. Xer.

Sick of angst filled bullshit and angry girl verse.

btw Hip Hop is poetry.

listen to kid rock most of his junk (and by junk I mean trash) was limerick based.

Yeah Hip Hop is poetry which is why I hate it. Music is poetry put to harmony (which hip hop does have, just not in the lyrics).

I like poetry if it is good, most of it though is trash so I tend to avoid it.

I've written it but I've grown out of it. I perfer storytelling/explination as a way to convay thoughts and ideas.

i voted no - i don't read it, and i don't know why i write it. at times, it's the only way i know to communicate my thoughts without sounding like a big fucken whiner... :blink :erm =(

i certainly agree theres some bad stuff out there. for those of you who do like to read poetry, where do you like to go? do you recommend anyone? or a site? or a book(s)? where do you find good poetry?

I'll tell you what if you can get threw a good portion of George Gordon Byron's works you'll be off to a good start.

Then after you read some good poets you'll know how much of a hack Lord Byron truly is.

However Down Wanton Down is amusing, and The Geior is a real challenge in trying to understand why people think it's about a vampire.

My opinion does not count or his works would not be published anymore anyway.
