I think he will kill again or at least mess someone up who doesn't deserve it.

You are more than likely right. I may be liberal in a lot of my views, but crime and punishment are not points I take lightly.

Candyman, you sound like you want to be a part of this society. As much as it hosed you over, you are still willing to consider defending it (the thought of joining the military shows some desire to defend.) The "live and let live" undertones I get in your postings accent this. I find it refreshing when I look at this part of the forum.

A soldier usually kills when he is forced, usually by self defense in a combat situation. In normal society, he regrets the life he took with the only comfort knowing at the time, it was necessary (causes many vets nightmares.) This person killed willingly without the need for defense, an aggressor. Whether it was a temper issue or not (I can see the anger in the argument,) it still was an unnecessary taking of a life.

Now, I am not sure how well European prisons do with rehabilitation vs. confinement, so, it is unclear to me how much is reforming or not (I hope they do better at reforming people than we do.) Being forced to use what I know of the American penal system, I feel that there is a significant risk of a repeat killing or life mess up. While life in prison and execution are not European norms, I believe he should be watched carefully. If he has had reforming counseling in prison, this needs to be mandated to be continued if he re-enters society.

He will be watched very well. They will not just turn him loose like people think. He has been slowly working his way back out...the really isn't a release like we have its just more rope to let him run around with.

Their prison systems, at least in the northern and eastern parts of Europe, are something out of history. They see no need to update the prisons...nazi germany and soviet russia built them well enough in the 30's and 40's...and we all know that those guys build really nice places. I know a pastor in Latvia that was kept in a prison that was smaller than this one, but still much the same. He was kept there from '94-'95 by the russians because he wouldn't join the army...it was only a year in the "light" stuff and he had enough. There are these cells that are round in shape. There are no windows, no flat spaces, and obviously no light. Water is kept in the cell at a height of about three inches. I crawled into one for ten seconds and it sucked...try that for a while. And it would not suprise me if the prisons are still run that way. They are not meant to keep people for life...they will take the persons "life" and let them go.

No. Hate is an irrational emotion that brings pain and strife. There is never a time to hate. Disagree, sure. Hate just is bad news.

I'm thinking I'm going to be moving to AZ, soon! Can't wait! I friggin' love it here! The heat doesn't bother me at all and the best part? NO SNOW!!! (S.N.O.W. - Shit  No One Wants)   Been staying in Bullhead City where the kids and grandkids live. Next, we're going to the wife's cousin's which is a ways North of Kingman, in the middle of nowhere, where we actually plan to move.   I really like Bullhead. It's a nice little town. Not overcrowded like Colorado Springs has become, at all. Very light traffic, reasonable prices on everything, low taxes, etc. The river offers a lot to do, with a lot of beaches and campgrounds all around it.   But yeah even though we've been over 110º-115º F just about every day,  I can handle it!  What I can't handle anymore, is snow and being cold. Just tired of it. Give me the desert over a blizzard any day!

Nope, we wasn't doing anything. I didn't want to go by myself.  I ended up doing karaoke here. It would of been a perfect day to go, though.
