Guest MsMaldoror Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 I love ratties. I managed a large Teen Department in the library I worked in outside of New Orleans. I adopted four baby rats as library pets, and the kids helped me take care of them. They were VERY popular. All sorts of people would come there to visit them. I also had a "Rats in the Library" program this summer at my current place of employment. A lady from the MI Rat Fanciers Association brought at least two dozen of her rats to the library and did a presentation on pet rats and many of the myths associated with them. I bring mine to work almost every week to visit.
Moonlight_Phantasy Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 No.....But when my brother and I were little we found these baby meeces and our evil stepmother made us catch them in cups and put them in the alley. A couple of days ago we were talking about this and he told me he actually kept one for a pet for two weeks but he ended up letting it go cuz it wouldnt eat its cheese............. :blink :blushing :doh
Guest MsMaldoror Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 hehe Rats and mice don't seem to care much for cheese. I've had them both as pets. Guest Game of Chance Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 I liked Splinter from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...but that's about it. I think there should be a DGN pet gathering....kinda like the DGN kiddie gathering. Except for, everyone with pet snakes or cats should get together with everyone that has pet rats. That sounds like a good time :laughing :fear
Paper Hearts Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 hehe Rats and mice don't seem to care much for cheese. I've had them both as pets. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My rat, Sweaty, used to really enjoy rancid butter. Have you tried that one on yours?
Guest MsMaldoror Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 I really hope I don't come back as one of your pets in another life. My rat, Sweaty, used to really enjoy rancid butter. Have you tried that one on yours? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Guest MsMaldoror Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Rancid butter? No wonder why your rat was sweaty and smelled like urine... Actually, male rats tend to get kind of oily and stinky. I have to give mine a bath every now and then.
Paper Hearts Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 I just figured that it was a rat-it will eat all kinds of things, so why not see if it will like the rancid butter before I throw it away-and you know what? He loved it. He seemed to have a taste for things that had gone putrid. I was like "why not".
Moonlight_Phantasy Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 My dad always put peanut butter on mouse traps. It seems to work. Although if I ever get a pet rat I want to name it Furby. Just because.

damagedangel Posted August 12, 2005 Posted August 12, 2005 I had a pet male rat about 10 years ago (oh my lord has it been that long?) His name was Bernie. He was awesome.
Homicidalheathen Posted August 13, 2005 Posted August 13, 2005 They do, they really do....you better protect and/or hide your sweet cheesy little ass... Rats like me. =) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
pomba gira Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Rats are wonderful pets... there's a world of difference between pet rats & alley rats. Being raised in 1970s Detroit I have no love whatever for those foul beasts. Only problem w/pet rats is their short lifespan and tendency to develop tumors and other weird health issues (esp. the pink-eyed white ones) I had two rats named Mick & Keith way back when I lived in San Francisco... I loved them & was sad when I moved back here & couldn't bring 'em. Then I had several mice for a while in the early '90s... they were unfortunate victims when a disgruntled business associate ov my then-boyfriend felt called on to break in my house & trash the place... they smashed the mouse tank in the process & I never saw any ov my poor little mousies again. Haven't owned another "cage pet" since then. Been thinking I'd like some rats or reptiles... I love those geckos they sell at the mall... but all 3 kitties are serious hunters and Chango esp. is a genius at getting into things- I have childproof latches on all the cupboards to keep him out. So I tend to think any prey-sized critter wouldn't last long in my home. I am seriously considering getting a classroom pet this year, though... if anyone wants to donate a critter or cage or supplies, my students & I would be eternally grateful!
Mr.Mysterious Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Hehehehe Yes I had rats at one time ...started with four of them .... the place i got them said they were all males.... a couple of months later I had 9 lil pinkies to add to my collection. I love Rats as pets ... but unfortunatly due to where I am living at the moment I cannot have any pets... Also I play a rat character in a video game that I play aswell ..... and my parents call me RATBOY because I ended up with so many before I had to move ........back to michigan Rats are cool LONG LIVE RATBOY
