Oh Sh*t ... IPB 3.0 is out.

IP.Board 3.0 which is the long awaited latest version of the software DGN runs on was just released. Along with associated updates to the picture gallery , spam filters and other such things.

I've not started installing it yet, but it is coming. (Here goes another 40 hours of my life I won't get back. lol)

Be afraid, be very afraid.

Holding off on launching armageddon slightly. Awaiting a bit more input on the IPB nerd forums to see if any huge bugs crop up.

The actual list of enhancments is insanely long. Amazed there have been no big bugs that have cropped up yet with such a huge update. They did have an usually long beta period, which helped.

A lot of the updates have to do with back end stuff, some of it very technical , other things like being able to drag & drop visual elements right on the board, rather than having to go through the code have a "gee whiz" aspect to them.

Random things I didn't notice before:

IP.Gallery

-Ability to crop, rotate, dynamically resize images. Use Javascript for front end, then re-generate image using GD on back end when user saves.

-Fancy slideshow feature. Something like Flickr, but done completely in Javascript (no flash needed)

-Better album control based on friendships - only allow friends to view album, allow friends to submit to your album, etc.

Sub-albums

-Image tagging

-Correct category/album markers (ala IPB)

Allow users to choose album covers from images in an album

Facebook Connect:

Users will have the ability to use Facebook Connect to login to your site. They will also have the ability to either associate their Facebook account with an existing IP.Board account, or create a new IP.Board account.

Basic profile data such as avatar, profile picture, "About Me", and status will be synced to IP.Board from Facebook

Friendly URLs

Instead of topics being called "/// 292321" they will have names (from a visual standpoint) such as "//DGN Night"

Helps a ton with search engines.
