there's still one American WWI vet still alive; I think he lives in WV.

I agree. It's been feeling the same way for me as I watch a whole generation of celebrities die, or when the last of Civil Rights Movement makers die off...or Gloria Steinem. Time tricks us...

His other WWI vet buddy died a week earlier too at 113. Man, that is a lot of war to see over the years.

I know, isn't it? Makes me wonder if men like them begin to kind of "wish" to leave. To be in it, and watch others go through it, knowing what happens... and to outlive your entire family on top of that...

Seen people like this; most of their old friends are gone, their current friends are young enough to be their children. It is like a child having no one to play with. Quite tragic.

It was just his time to go, I mean at that age life would kinda suck. As previously stated by SK, the man watched his friends die while he still puttered along.
