Fierce Critter Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 I enjoyed this film. I have a feeling it won't be so warmly received by the hardcore Christian fundamentalist. The basic moral of the story is (without spoilers) that extreme expectancies can be too much. (Uber-simplified, as I want to keep my reviews as spoiler-free as possible. That's actually a pretty lame way of putting it.) I liked the acting a lot. Basically an enjoyable film. Recommended. Extras include 2 or three different commentary tracks, deleted scenes, bloopers, etc. Note: Produced by Michael Stipe of R.E.M.
SomeDanGuy Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 Yeah I guess I liked it, but it also wasn't what I was expecting going into it. From the previews, I was hoping for an all-out anti-religion satire, but it's not that at all. It's much more of a 'real movie' than I expected, but still good.
Fierce Critter Posted June 3, 2005 Author Posted June 3, 2005 I didn't think it was going to be anti-religion. But I did get the message it was trying to get across. I thought it was fairly against extremism, without being too offensive.
SomeDanGuy Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 I guess I just was overly hopeful, being a militant atheist and all, hehe :innocent But yes, I agree with the message - extremism leads to problems
