A 50-year-old Pinckney man is in a Ypsilanti hospital today after a pumpkin thrown from an overpass crashed through his windshield and hit him in the head.

The man was driving a red 2007 Ford Ranger west on M-14 in Plymouth Township at 3:35 a.m. today when the pumpkin came flying off the Ridge Road overpass, just west of Beck, according to the South Post of the Michigan State Police. He's in stable condition at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilanti.<BR itxtvisited="1">

It's an ongoing problem that's been happening for months throughout Metro Detroit, say investigators.

"Tires, cement, now pumpkins," MSP South Post Sgt. Michael Shaw said this morning, adding he knows of at least 10 similar incidents in the past few months. "It's been a concern for us, but this is the first time an item large enough actually went through a windshield.

What's concerning to investigators is that about ten minutes after officers left the M-14 scene this morning, drivers reported more pumpkins being thrown from the bridge, Shaw said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Michigan State Police South Post at 734-287-5000. Motorists are also encouraged to call 911 if they see something suspicious besides someone walking on an overpass, Shaw said.

Exactly, sorry HH, I have no clue how ending the pumpkin carving tradition and not buying pumpkins anymore would have anything to do with this. If they didn't have a pumpkin to throw, they would have thrown something else.

Yet another stupid thing that people do. Do they have any leads as to who may have done it...any lead on an age range or anything? Wouldn't suprise me though if they were about my age. XD God, yet another reason why I wish natural selection was more aplicable to humans. (not for physcial or mental problems just to get rid of stupid people with no common sense.)
