Nienna Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 I want a kitten. I have definate baby lust. I'm looking for a healthy and intelligent kitten, preferably from someone's home or a shelter. Does anyone know anyone with babies? Any suggestions for reputable shelters in the Southfield area?? (I'm new to the area, NO IDEA where to find animals)
Fierce Critter Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Too bad I'm over 700 miles away. Two of the babies I'm fostering and the mama will be up for adoption in a couple weeks. One of the babies is white with long hair (daddy was a purebred Persian), and the other one is grey with white markings, with HUGE eyes like his mama. Try petfinder.com. They list rescues & shelters by location.

I'drather get a free baby so I can spend my money taking it to the vet. =)
Fierce Critter Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Check out the ad boards at the entrances of pet shops like PetSmart, etc. They always have a ton of people looking to give away kittens. I also found a lot looking at the pets section in the classifieds.
Nienna Posted June 9, 2005 Author Posted June 9, 2005 Oh yeah... the newspaper is something I hadn't thoguht of..
Fierce Critter Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Oh - I have even called PetSmart, and they were willing to go check out the board for me so I didn't have to drive there.

Guest MsMaldoror Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 The MI Humane Society in Rochester Hills is a really nice shelter, but you have to go through several interviews and fill out tons of paperwork in order to adopt an animal. Most super pet stores like Petco, PetSmart, and Pet Supplies Plus have adoptions every Sat. through various shelters during the summer. They have the animals there in cages, and you can adopt them on location. Also, usually in June or July, the Detroit Zoo sponsors a pet adoption weekend at the zoo. They have all sorts of kitties, puppies, bunnies, etc. to adopt. Good luck. You'll have to post pics of your new baby on DGN when you get him/her. =)
Guest MsMaldoror Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 I found my last kitten in MI this way: www.petfinder.org
Fierce Critter Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 I've been to the zoo adoption, and they charge. And PetSmart for sure charges $85 for a cat/kitten. I wonder if there's a vet in the Detroit area like I have down here - runs a no-kill rescue out of his office. Fee for adoption is $10, and that includes first shots, rabies vaccine, worming, distemper, & free spaying/neutering when the animal is of age. 4 of my babies came from him.
Nienna Posted June 9, 2005 Author Posted June 9, 2005 My friend just emailed me with a blue point siamese who needs a home... Not a kitten, but this kitty needs ME!!! *L* Will have to see if my roomie agrees..
SomeDanGuy Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 I got an email from a classmate just yesterday. Let me know if you want me to contact her: Hello Everybody, Well, I don't have anymore furniture to sell, but I do happen to have a free cat! I found a great kitty outside my church downtown. She'll make a wonderful pet for someone. (I'd love to keep her, but I already have two cats and three would officially qualify me as a crazy cat lady.) She is probably less than a year old, very affectionate and well house trained. Her fur is black with orange highlights and her tail looks like a feather duster. She will have a complete exam with the vet this Friday, and I hope to have a home for her before I leave for Connecticut (Tuesday). Please help! I really do not want to drop this awesome kitty off at a shelter. If you're interested, please take a look at the photos attached. Otherwise, please pass this message along to someone who might like a cat. Please feel free to contact me by e-mail or by phone (313)******* with any questions. Thanks, Therese
SomeDanGuy Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Oh, whoops. Looks like you found a cat while I was replying
Fierce Critter Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Oooh a blue point - pretty! Keep in mind and check ahead - Siamese are known for a tendency for excessive chatting & being your shadow. Some have even been known to meow consistently at a closed door between themselves & their human until you can't bear but to let him/her in. Of course, my Asia had to be the exception to that rule. She's atypically anti-social for the breed.
Homicidalheathen Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 My best kitties I get from freinds through word of mouth. I know its silly but it is a relationship and I think you should wait for the right one so to speak. The goddess will bring you your familiar if you ask. I want a kitten. I have definate baby lust. Guest MsMaldoror Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Some of my best ones were strays that just happened to show up on the doorstep. They just kind of made themselves at home--literally. Chances are there are a quite a few cats (even young ones) up for adoption in that area. Plus, if the adoptables doesn't quite come up to par, or if something goes wrong, thou can blame me. Since I wrote it.
