I just moved to Michigan from Phoenix, AZ where we have a pretty killer nightlife scene for the goth crowd. I'm just looking to find out where people go at night in this state that might be close to Battle Creek, MI. Detroit is about two hours away from us right now, and it will probably continue to be that way unless someone can convince my car (and myself) that I can teleport places. Or the earth shrinks. :)

Well, you can always carpool with someone half way like with those from Jackson or in the area. There isn't anything that I have heard of in the way of goth clubs or goth nights out that way. In Ann Arbor on Monday nights they have a goth/industrial night and I just not just noticed on this site http://home.comcast.net/~bwd2001/MidwestClubs.htm that there is a club night at The Flats in K-zoo at 116 Portage St. Not sure if its updated or not though. Looks like it shows Sundays so I can't be sure if its accurate.

nope - i'm in k'zoo and used to go to the flats all the time (the only decent night was "obscure 80's night, we had a pretty big "goth" contingent). it's been literally out of business for years though, and there's nothing else in this area of which i'm aware. grand rapids might have something, but that's still over an hour away.

k'zoo does have a kick-ass local music scene though. feel free to hit me up if you need some advice on things to do around here, ok? and welcome to the board! :welcome:

1) hi!

2) try looking these people up: http://www.detroitgothic.net/index.php?showtopic=33650

3) is there still an Amtrak stop in Battle Creek? the Detroit station is 2-3 miles straight north of City Club.

Round these parts the scene is pretty wanting if you're looking for something more goth-oriented.

However, if you're into industrial/EBM/noize then City Club in Detroit (if you're willing to make the trip), Necto Mondays in Ann Arbor, and the bi-weekly Resist events in Ferndale (again, if you're willing to drive some ways) are very accommodating. Didn't grand Rapids have something similar?

While not quite goth, the monthly Something Cold(coldwave/minimal synth, death disco) and Plastic Passions(deep, dark retro and 80s new wave) events are refreshing alternatives to the above. Again, though, both take place ways off from Battle Creek - SC in Detroit and PP in Ann Arbor.

Ahhh...I remember that scene...a decade or so ago, but it still was fun.

Wow, thanks for all the info guys! :)

I didn't realize I was getting replies because I wasn't getting emails about it, silly me. I'll have to mess around with that setting. :3

Do you think if there was a new goth club opened up somewhere in Kalamazoo that there would be enough people showing to support a club? Exactly how big IS the "scene" or whatever you might call it out here be? While we're on the subject, is there a fetish scene out here at all? Do people out here like house parties?

Sorry if it's a lot of questions, just trying to get my bearings. :)

we do have quite the fetish scene contingent here - you may want to ask that question in a separate thread. that way, more of them will see it and (hopefully) let you know what's up.

You know your only option may be to just bite the bullet, and get to Detroit. There are usually cheap hotels to be found online if you can plan a few days ahead. Some people may disagree but i've been going to City Club (Located in downtown Detroit in the Leland Hotel, at the corner of Cass & Bagley) for about 10 years and i still love it. But the hotel sucks. There are cheaper , cleaner ones just a block or 2 away. I know it's far but it's worth the drive if you like Industrial , Synthpop, EMB, ect. It's been a little bit slow since the smoking ban, but it's picking back up i think. Then there's Mondays at Necto in Ann Arbor where the crowd has been larger lately, but it's less "authentic". You may have to put up with the Juggaloos.

This 👆 definitely goes with what I said in my other post - getting old sucks. Seems like *everything* takes longer and takes more energy out of me than it used to. Really need to work on my diet and exercise, I've found the older I get, the more important those things have really become...

Well we were supposed to leave last night, but life has a way of making plans for you. I'm about to get up and get ready to go on our vacation. Had and still have a lot to do.  Not easy to just up and leave a ranch with a lot of animals and things that need taken care of. We even have people here to watch and tend things while we're gone, but still.   I had to change the radiator in my car before we leave - got that done last night. Took a lot more out of me than I thought it would, so by the time I finished I had little energy for anything else. Today I just have a couple more quick things to do on the car, like cleaning it and packing stuff. Couple of minor things to do around the ranch today, as well.   I figure we should be on the road this evening sometime. I'm looking forward to it. We're going to see the wife's side of the family, people I actually like,  in Vegas and AZ. Should only be gone for a few days, maybe a week. Going to the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead and all kinds of stuff in between, so I'm pretty stoked. I LOVE the Southwest.   Wish me luck that my car survives the desert! (Hence new radiator) 🤠👍

Sometimes sleep can be a scary thing.  I passed out so hard at 4:54pm today.  Yesterday wiped me out with rentals, appointments and helping a lost dog get back home.  Fortunately, I found him on Facebook and contacted the owners and he was picked up before nightfall.  But I think I totally overdid it and paid for it today in the middle of handling business.  Thankfully it was some work at home stuff.   I definitely do not like being that kind of tired.  It's like the World could end and I'd wake up afterwards trying to find out what happened.
