Lets look at this with a little common sense.

If a hacker can intercept your USERNAME & PASSWORD (U&P), then decrypt it and use it then how the hell does this protect you? They will intercept credential/biometric scan, then decrypt it and use it. It is that simple. Bigger problem... If you know your U&P has been compromised, you quickly change it and lodge a complaint right? That's what I did. If your biometric has been compromised what do you do? Change your thumb print? Your retinal pattern? Your DNA? No you have to get cut off from everything you are trying to protect wile they drag their feet. Of course they are going to start out with a "Program" to use as your token, but *blink* *blink* We are sorry but the hackers have gotten a hold of enough Program Credentials that they can generate them now so we have to switch to a biometric system because they can't possibly generate an electronic fake or duplicate.

Any sane person can see what a bad idea this is on that basis alone.

Now I know, they claim it is voluntary, right? For how long? The IRS can one day decide that in the name of security you will be required to participate to e-file. Oh I know, so just paper file. What about applying for Social Security, Vet or unemployment benefits? Licenses like amateur radio, pilots, firearms etc etc. Renewing licenses and passports. Need some thing for a couple months like FIP or EBT, please place your thumb here, but wait your applying for your whole family so we need them too. Just start implementing things one or two at a time and eventually it become required but not mandatory for most Americans.

+1 These things are ALWAYS voluntary to begin with. This is just another incremental step in the "Total Information Awareness" doctrine. People will accept it without batting an eye, just as they've accepted every intrusion and abrogation of Constitutional rights. Notice how they go to great lengths to talk about private providers, but link to a government website. You can bet that when they assure you that there will be no centralized database, there will be. Remember when they said that the government wasn't monitoring the communications of ordinary citizens and then it came out that the NSA took up an entire floor at AT&T and they admitted that they were actually doing all the things they assured us they weren't? There was a little grumbling about it, but we ended up accepting it.
