phee Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I am not sure about the order here... but here are some of them... I could go on.... but limiting to 10. 1. Alien (1979) 2. The Shining (1980) 3. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) 4. The Exorcist (1973) 5. Audition (2000) 6. Dawn Of The Dead (1978) 7. Suspiria (1977) 8. Descent (2005) 9. The Thing (1982) 10. Near Dark (1987)
BloodStainedParadise Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 As horror is my favourite genre, I'm going to find it difficult to limit my list to just ten, but here it goes: 1. A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) 2. Audition (2000) 3. Ju-On (2000) 4. Descent (2005) 5. The Exorcist (1973) 6. Chakushin Ari: One Missed Call (2003) 7. Suspiria (1977) 8. The Shining (1980) 9. Martyrs (2008) 10. The Hamiltons (2006)
DJ Nocker Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 (edited) This is going to be difficult to name just ten and with a label that is just "horror" (soooo many genres of horror) As it is my favorite genre by far. I dont know how to rate this list...As I have horror movie favorites, and movies that have had the most effect on me which makes them a different kind of favorite, as well as loving movies for visual effect and what not...oh god this is hard. Also alot of movies are labled horror but really arent (they are shock or arthouse)... Lets seeeeee 1. Martyrs 2. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) 3. Alien 4. Night of The Living Dead (original) 5. Eraserhead 6. The Shining (original) 7. The Thing (Carpenter version) 8. Evil Dead (original) 9. Philosophy of A Knife 10. Cloverfield That is a very ruff list. Tried to include several sub genres as well as some newer movies mixed in with older ones. I love horror movies more than I love music so its very hard to pick... I think the Original Nightmare on Elm Street should be on my list but I dunno. EDIT: For me to give a top ten for movies of any genre is pretty much impossible as I believe if you have a favorite movie, you havent seen enough movies...These are movies I feel are must see films and have done something great for the genre. Troy Spiral (13) Posted July 6, 2011 Author Posted July 6, 2011 Master List (assuming Joeys is "no particular order, which I think he inteded but didnt say)... Current DGN Favorites Master List: 1. Alien (1979) 2. The Shining (1980) 3. The Exorcist (1973) 4. Audition (2000) 5. Dawn Of The Dead (1978) 6. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) 7. Descent (2005) 8. Psycho (1960) 9. The Exorcist (1973) 10. Martyrs (2008) (making a few tie breakers at random) Damn thta takes a long time, will have to actually make some kind of form/code/mod to be able to keep this up.

Guest Megalicious Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 (edited) 1. The Original Nightmare (84 ish, I'm to lazy to look it up) - I think it scares me the most because EVERYONE HAS TO SLEEP. *nods* 2. Puppet Master (1989). Those little puppets scare the shit out of me, especially the one with the big hands and the little head... fucking freaky. 3. The Shinning (80)- that bathtub scene still does it every time. 4. Marebito (2005ish)- if you haven't seen it, and you love horror, you should. 5. Deep Red (74?) - my favorite from Argento (though I think he is highly overrated). 6. Nightbreed (80-- need I say more). 7. Hellraiser (87, like NB, need I say more?) 8. Creepshow one and two (mid late 80s) -. This is more just like comfort food for me. I loved them growing up. I watched them often and could not decided between the thing under the stairs or "thanks for the ride lady' as being my favorite. 9.Troll (86)- Yes I know how bad it is, but its bad GOOD. Like Time Bandits. This like Creepshow is my horror comfort food from when I was young. 10.Pan's Labyrinth (2007?). Though it is by no means a horrorHORROR film, it was stunning and the sawing off the leg scene was the first time in a long time I caught myself almost unable to look at what was happening on screen. Guest Megalicious Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I forgot to put May (2002) on that list. That movie sort of touches me in ways I can't describe. I love hands too ...
Fierce Critter Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Note: I have to distinguish between horror and disaster movies, otherwise every title I select would involve the apocalypse in some way. So no "28 Days later" etc. 1. Poltergeist (1982) 2. Night of the Living Dead (1968) 3. Halloween (1978) 4. Hellraiser (1987) 5. Dracula (1979 w/Frank Langella) - yes, I know, it's the "romantic" Dracula. I don't care. It was the film that made me hot for vampires and has a VERY special place in my... heart.) 6. House of Wax (1953 w/Vincent Price) 7. The Horror of Dracula (1958 Hammer Films w/Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing) 8. Alien (1979) 9. Blair Witch Project (1999) 10.Frankenstein (1931 w/Karloff) Honorable mentions (in no particular order): Night Creatures (1962 w/Cushing) The Bride (1985 w/Sting) (Tie) Andy Warhol's Dracula & Frankenstein Waxwork (1988) Fright Night (1985) The Prophecy (1985 w/Christopher Walken - the only reason this isn't #1 on my actual list is because it's only borderline horror.) Island of Terror (1966, w/Peter Cushing) The Hitcher (1986 w/Rutger Hauer) The Lost Boys (1987) The Fog (1980) The Omen (1976) American Werewolf in London (1981) Something Wicked This Way comes (1983) Willard (1971) The Shining (1980) Warlock (1991) Carrie (1976) Trilogy of Terror (1975, specifically the doll segment) The Birds (1963) The Brain that Wouldn't Die (1962) Night of the Hunter (1955 w/Robert Mitchum) The Mummy (1932 w/Karloff) Island of Dr. Moreau (1977)
