What three things what you grab and why (pets do not count, I not only don't count them as "things", but just for the sake of this discussion, let's pretend they are already successfully saved).

Posted

Clothes as to not be without, assuming I had none on.

Legos cause with no house you still have Legos.

And my guns to help defend my Legos.

All 3 objects would be things that had to do with Kim and whatever she valued.

Guitar

Bass

Leather Jacket

My laptop, my kindle, and my cellphone. There's really nothing else that I own that I give a shit about.

Well, most of the important legal documents are in a "fireproof" safe, so I guess my laptop, box of photos (I should really put them on-line somewhere to better preserve them), and my diaries. But, really, I suppose I could let it all burn so long as Spook and the kitties were safe. No real need to risk my life for memories if we can just make more together.

I've actually had this happen, when my daughter was 4.

The things I grabbed -

Daughter.

Blanket to cover her with and try to help keep smoke away from her face.

Car keys (as I passed them).

Then I got the fuck out.

I always thought "I'd grab this or that" but when the moment of truth came - it was just react and go.

Computer. I'd throw it out the window if I have to. What is on the hard drives is irreplaceable. My writings, pictures, my Family Tree stuff, etc.

My binder that has all of my writings.

My picture album

I think this is the only thing that I would stop to grab, assuming there was time. If not, the whole world can see my jiggly butt as I run to safety.

I save the houseplants, since the pets are only auto-saved due to being alive, I'm guessing the plants are , as living things , also higher on the priority list than say, the house deed.

Seriously though I have a bag full of crap, which is like 10 things, extra key, the one credit card i dont use, nearly useless cell phone but good enough to call 991 and some other stuff so that bag would be the piroirty but that wouldn't really count as 3 things.

Assuming that bag full of crap wasn't available , hopefully the 1.phone (call the fire department) / 2. wallet/ 3. keys were grab able, if not fuck it... The paperwork (important) is in a fireproof cabinet. My hug-stockpile is imaginary (or so they tell me) so the REALLY important stuff is all safe. So if the 123 stuff wasn't on the way out the door, to bad GTFO.

Oh well the autographed copy of Cosmos , I'd have to get that or go down with the ship.

1) I wouldn't have thought of it if it hadn't been said earlier, but I like the idea of throwing the PC out the window. Good idea - thanks.

2) After the PC goes out the window, the drawer of "important papers" follows. That includes things like birth certificates and photographs from our wedding. Good thing that's right next to the PC.

3) I can't believe I'm saying this. But the c-pap machines. They're not replaceable except for a really huge sum of money, and without them, neither of us sleep worth a damn. Sleep will be hard enough with the emotional and mental toll of a fire. We'll really need them.

It's a tie between the c-paps and my 12-string. I may not have played it in over a decade, but it's mine, and I love it.

In all seriousness, though, with 11 cats in the house, nothing is really going to get saved before them. I have developed a serious fear of fire due to this. I won't even burn candles anymore, and I used to be a candle fanatic.

I feel for you on the 11 cats thing, we have four and even with that amount I get nervous. Our condo DID actually catch on fire when we were there years ago (we've since sold it, moved, and bought a foreclosure). It was frightening because the flames completely engulfed our kitchen. What was my risk-taking animal loving ass doing? Running into the basement FULL of smoke with three rats balanced on my shoulders so that I could find my cat, Gitzie. I almost didn't make it back up the stairs. In retrospect, it was pretty epic, but probably stupid.

I hear they made a movie reenacting my condo fire called "Backdraft", but I still have no idea why I'm played by Kurt Russell .

1. My purse, because it has mine and my husband's car keys, the house key, my work key, my cell phone, cell phone charger, credit cards, bank card, driver's license, medications, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, nail clippers, nail file...and so on.

2. Either the photo album of our wedding/honeymoon, or the CD and camera that has all the pictures. Whatever I could get to first.

3. My binder of poems.

I think I actually forgot to post in this

1. My novels I've been working on. They've already been destroyed two times I believe and I've had to write them over again. Not doing it one more time.

2. My pet keepsakes from my childrens who have passed...

3. My Ogre pendant! I did not follow his Kaleidoskope online people-project for weeks, figuring out his puzzles and riddles along with the rest of Litany, to have that shit burn up in a fire!
