Hello all

I just recently moved to Windsor. Checking to see what the scene is like.

I DJ online and produce my own music ;

I am looking in to opening a Goth/Industrial Pub/Club here in Windsor. We seem oddly under-represented on this side of the boarder, and with the lower drinking age here I think at least some of the Detroit community would appreciate somewhere to go. I am thinking of starting small with a pub open 7 days a week, and hope to add a dance floor for weekends. I am looking into Entrepreneurship programs here in Windsor since they give me time to plan, access to resources while putting a business plan together, and usually end in a grant to start your business.

I appreciate feedback, ideas, and new friends in the area.

To add some information on myself ; I am 37 as of the 2nd of July, and am Transgender. I am a huge music nerd ; I appreciate something from just about every genre and love blending styles together. Personal favorites of mine are ; Post Punk/Goth/New Wave/Synth, Early experimental Industrial and EBM and Electronica, Modern EBM, Aggrotech, Electro, DnB/Techstep/Darkstep/Skullstep, 80s/90s Hip Hop, Industrial Hip Hop (Saul Williams.)

I love Sushi and Sashimi, my personal favorite foods. Would love to find a way to put a Goth spin on Sushi for some dishes in my Pub potentially. Make the place a unique experience.

I write ; have some novels in the works that I just cant get around to finishing, poetry, songs, articles. I love debate. I am a whore for information. I just cannot learn enough.

I value creativity, uniqueness, honesty, brilliance.

Look forward to meeting some great people here in Windsor/Detroit.

Thank you.

Welcome aboard the board! I'm glad to see another Windsor resident on here. Until now, Tyger and I were the only ones.

We used to have a few club nights in Windsor, but everything died out years ago. Wednesdays at The Coach was the last one standing. Once only two or three people would show up for it, they stopped doing it. Most of the people in the scene moved away when the economy tanked and the handful that are left are flat broke. Unfortunately, this city can't support a goth night anymore. I've been hoping that someday we would get some new blood and create a demand for it.

Hello all

Hiya. Well written introduction. There are really only 3 nights a week at best, from were your at I guess that would be City Club Fri/Saturday and then Sky Noir wich is a small ish bar, rather than a "dance club". But tends to be a lot less "electronic" than I'm guessing your looking for. Necto would be the other choice but from windsor that is a long haul all the way out to ann arbor.

Welcome to the place. Hopefully we will see you around more often. I'd write more but i have multiple doctor appointments to go to and I need to run out the door asap, just wanted to reply to your post before i poofed for most of the day.

Oh .. you answered most of this but here goes anyway, and regardless welcome to the place. :welcome: :welcome:

I would say contact Siren and Tyger, but it seems Siren already found you. Her husband Raev is DJs as well and is hoping to open up an Irish pub. Mayhaps you can bump heads.

And Troy, i would like to help out with the forum/community any way possible. Financial is not quite possible at the moment as I am between jobs, however anything you could need feel free to ask. I am very passionate about rebuilding Goth culture back to its rightful place.

Dang dolphins leaving us with all these fish we can't feed to them anymore. /sniffles. :crybaby:

Yeah the scientists can't seem to make a stable clone, always upsets me. Damn scientists. I think I'll get a parrot next time they will probably outlive me so I wont have to be sad when they go.

Hobbies? Music, Debate, Theological History, Classic Sci Fi, Gaming, Poetry, Debauchery, Food Nerd

Careful mentioning Sci Fi around here, there are a lto of sci fi nerds around here, myself included, it might cause a stampede.)

Theological History ? Nice. I can't say that I'm a follower of theological history exactly, but the subject of religion (or lack of) in general has been a lifelong "hobby" (for lack of a better word at the moment, pretty tried, posting on auto pilot).

What sort of gaming?

Regardless, welcome again.

I've been dying to put together and gm a dice and paper game for ages.

As for computer games; i prefer fighting games, strategy games and RPGs. Not much a fan of MMORPGS because they are more squad games than role playing, though I have been playing DDO with a friend recently and enjoy it. It is very solid for allowing free character design and role-play.

Oh and the "its my DJ name" just removes the "were did you get your name?" back one step. I used to say "i have used this name for years, originally as a stage name in acting class and then later a DJ name on 89.3 FM, but that really just says were I used it not were i got it. Not that its a big deal, just hit me randomly. (First thing that pops to my mind is Ophelia from Shakespeare (hamlets girlfriend)) Hopefully the tone is taken in a positive way, sometimes text is hard to get. I always mean well, just making conversation.

For sure could use the help, desperately. A lot of people say they wan't to help but go poof after a few weeks. I got sick many months ago and while I was gone things went to pot around here activity wise.

In terms of DGN itself we need help with activity and promotion , activity as in, just post something, when you can as often as you can even if your not in the mood. No one wants to eat at an empty restaurant (trying to keep your name on that "top 10 posters" list on the main page is a good way to "donate help" without costing any money). Then promotion is promotion. Online or offline. We have business cards and bumper stickers and other stuff, also you'll notice the black "crests" on my profile (like mine says 13) which is just a fun/funny way of recognizing promotion that actually turns into an active poster thispost here: shows what the symbols mean and such.

But for now honestly just "being around" and not dissapearing is very helpful, the empty restaurant metaphor is very apt. More ambitious things like promotion and maybe coming to City Club on saturdays are also good (also might help build your "reputation" for both the DJing and the eventual try and a club)

Oh and somehow I skipped this, my suggestion would be City Club on saturday if your thinking about going out.

I fought against MMOs for ages , although I eventually gave in and embraced the concept. I played DDO for a long time as well as probably a dozen other MMOs. Not actively playing any at the moment, trying to cut back on the non-social (that is not involving people im friends with in real life) gaming , as being an addict for ages, it just tends to make me more solitary. Only video game i'm "actively" playing at the moment is League of Legends (its really good once you get into it) but I've put so many zillions of hours into almost every time of video game its not funny.

I like board games and other "hobby" games (Settlers of Catan, Magic the gathering, Warhammer 40k being key ones) but am not currently playing them either, not really for any specific reason just having other priorities and no one im close to is playing any at the moment.

Ophelia also happens to be my middle name in rl. I chose it myself as a homage to Shakespeare, reference to her madness, and the name also means hope.

I think you and I are going to get along very well.

I used to play MTG for a long time. Fallen Empires through to Lorwyn. Combination of having a lot of power vintage cards stolen as well as a serious dumbing down of the rules made me quit. I started playing MTG Tactics shortly after that came out. Fun game.

Omg gaming nerd AND lit nerd? shame! (teasing hah)

I've failed to quit magic about 5 times. The time before last was getting my cards stolen. The last time was just being broke and having to sell them. Now i play with proxies (good ones , like printed out on a color printer) thing plays exactly the same, just costs $200+ less to play. Well thats if i was playing which im not currently.

I've been playing MTG on and off since er... The Dark , I think (hard to remember back in the ages before time began lol)

I was irritated with the rules changes but I'm used to them now. Honestly the only real dumbing down was how the stack works during combat and "damage on the stack", which even judges sometimes didn't understand with the layering and time stamping. Once i got over the initial WTF?? Really it doesnt change gameplay all that much, other than make it less of a headache during tournaments (in casual play its not really relevant). The "big" change for your average newbie was the no mana burn thing which, some loved, others hated. (I hated but got over it)

The set development has been consistently good, starting with lorwyn, as they rolled a ton of heads just before that set and co-incident with that the game got huge due to various reasons and they have a lot of money/manpower to spend on development that they didn't have before. Although that development is largely focused on what people actually play, which is Standard/Type II as the other formats all put together are a rounding error in comaprision. (not that I don't play them, its just a fact)

I've dabbled in MTG Tactics and the 10 other MTG online variations, but am really trying to cut down on my video gaming.
