Fierce Critter Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 It's rare anymore that I get worked up over material things. But I've lost a pair of earrings, and I just had to give in and cry for a change, instead of my usual, "oh well, I'll live" attitude. Over the past 6 years, I've sold off the vast majority of anything of value I've owned on Ebay. Collectible Beatles dolls, estate jewelry, even my biker jacket - you name it, it's gone. There were a few things I wouldn't let go. And one of them was this pair of earrings I can't find now. I got them in 1994 from Mervyn's. I searched for a couple days to find just the right pair to go with an Issye Miyake tunic I'd sewn myself. These couldn't have been better. They were sterling drops, with onyx half-circles on the bottom, making them look like deco pendulums. I think they had marcasite, and each had one light blue stone at the center top of the onyx piece. I keep my jewelry in carved, wooden Polish jewelry boxes on my dresser. Over the past few years with many, many moves having occurred, most of this stuff was stuck in a cardboard box and rarely accessed. Those earrings should have been in their original velvet giftbox, with a few studs that I wore in my other piercings in the box as well. I just can't understand why those earrings aren't in their particular wooden box - I just can't fathom them NOT being there. I was going to wear them to the company Christmas party tomorrow. Guess I'll just wear my 24/7/365 sterling hoops. Sigh. I'm not usually a baby over stuff like this. But, I mean, even our wedding rings are sterling - I don't/didn't have much, and those were special. Sigh.
Brenda Starrr Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 Awww, FC! I bet they'll turn up. Maybe not by the time you go to the party, but they have to be somewhere nearby. I'll keep my fingers crossed!
JaneDead Posted December 10, 2004 Posted December 10, 2004 i hate when that happens. it is not even about the "material" aspect of it is just very special or sentimental. people can't usually understand that. :(
Fierce Critter Posted December 12, 2004 Author Posted December 12, 2004 Jinkies if I didn't possibly figure out some clues as to where they went. I'm 99.9% sure the last time I wore them was New Years Eve, 2001/2002 to... CITY CLUB. The very night my avatar pic was taken. My husband and I took a few dozen pics of each other that night, and all of them are STILL on the computer. I just took a look, and though none of the pictures show the earrings clearly, in at least one, I can see enough to almost totally convince me I was wearing them. Anyway, I KNOW myself, and those would have gone perfectly with the rest of the jewelry I was wearing that night. We were living with my parents at the time, awaiting the "o.k." to move down to NC, which we did the first couple days of March that year. Somewhere in that 2 months, I betcha the box they were kept in ended up somewhere in the upstairs room we were living in. I put the heads-up out to my family to keep their eyes open. The only problem is, that room is a virtual warehouse of stuff my packrat mother & sister have stored there. Boxes upon boxes upon boxes we had to work our way around while living there. If the velvet giftbox they were in IS up there, it could take a major search to find it - and I'm the only person who'd be willing and able to conduct such a search. Damn, I hate being 700 miles away.
