Gene test for response to antidepressants

Mainly it measures how you metabolize the drug but it is only a matter of time before, hopefully they can pinpoint why these specific drug's are better for some and not for others. What would be great is if we could figure out how to fix the chemical imbalance with nutrition but, if they did that big pharma would collapse so bandages for now..

Medicare and the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs now cover the testing.

Medicare article:

For the VA article:

I would still be slightly hesitant to put all of your eggs in one basket on this. I found a good article from a psychiatrist on the test and the evidence for its efficacy:

I find this very interesting. I had it done maybe a year ago. It was interesting to me to see how I metabolize what drugs and why they probably don't work for me or vice versa.

I think it is at least a way to eliminate what you find out you can't mmetabolize my thinking is that it eliminates the possibility of a person having to go through the guinea pig process, well somewhat. I guess it would be a general what not to take guide. My coworker who tried it said it was effective in her case.

As long as insurance pays, then what the hell right?

Right, however, Medicaid probably won't pay because then that means that eliminates the fun big pharma has with using Medicaid recipients as guinea pigs for the latest med your doctor's office pharmaceutical rep is pushing.

We've all seen them in our doctors waiting room in their black suits and briefcases, not a strand of hair out of place, cutting in front of you when you had a scheduled appointment! Lol
