Although the children being left alone without adult supervision was definitely neglectful for their ages, my main focus is on the thought processes of the two 3-year olds who did the deed. What type of influences have they been subjected to that would even prompt that sort of curiosity to: 1. mess with the stove knowing it will get "hot" and 2. put something alive inside of it while knowing it will get "hot"...?

exactly my thoughts. I  am going to follow the story, it doesn't really make alot of sense but unfortunately we here this stuff all the time.
