Body Piercings In The Workplace

I've worked tons of jobs in which I had to interact with the Baby Boomer generation. Even through my cross-dressing phases and the funky hair colors and cuts., I have never had any issues with older people interacting with me. I think we have made it to a point where the older generations just realize how experimental we, young-uns, are. Ironically, older people were more likely to talk to my freakish self than to some of my conservative co- workers.

When I moved back here from San Francisco back in '90, my auntie was constantly nagging me to cut my dreads & get a perm (relaxer). But I never had any trouble getting a job. I figured anyplace that wouldn't hire me because of my hair, I would be totally miserable working there anyway.

I believe there is a time and place for extremes. It depends on where you work. If you strive for a professional, corporate type career then the body art should be at a minimum. If you are manager of a comic book, skate, or extreme clothing shop then it would be totally acceptable.

I'm going to voice my opinion that will probably offend some people. I'm turned off but exessive facial piercings on those that serve me food. I'm not sure why, but I am. But I mean like tons. That happened once and it really turned me off. Had I seen this dude in the mall or whatever I wouldn't have been turned off. In fact, I wouldn't have thought about it at all.

BTW, I don't think there is anything wrong with dreads unless they have that coming apart look. But again, thats MO.

My Boss and I were having an interesting conversation about this just the other day when I asked what he would think if I dyed my hair a dark deep purple....which wasn't much different than when I asked because it was black....

I now have light Shit brown hair....... =( =( =( =( =(

One of my friends works at this store that similar to Pier One Imports. She was telling me the other day about how they got a corporate policy update in regards to piercings. In it, it states that an employee is to have no more than TWENTY visable piercings. I laughed. I asked her what would happen should an employee have 21 visable piercings. She rolled her eyes and said, well, they'd get fired then. This leaves one question in my mind...how in the hell can someone have 20 visable piercings?
