I hate our post/comment editor

So this is the top line, if that's replaced by a video I cannot post above it without deleting the video.  If it's a quote, I can't post above it without deleting the quote and most of the time it won't even let me delete the quote!

Is there a way to fix this?  Most editors have an option to let you edit the raw HTML/BB code and switch back.  Or maybe switch to another type of editor.  I am greatly annoyed.  I mean I can work around some things.  However when I can't delete a quote and then close the window only to reopen it only to find that it has saved the quote I can't delete. http://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating is an understatement.  Also that link parsed wrong, it should go to https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinfuriating but apparently it stops half way through, on my screen at least.  I'd be able to fix that first one if I could edit the code, but I can't, so I can't.

Is there anything that can be done?

The bottom line below works the same way, although I haven't tried it with a quote, only video.

I am not sure if this is the same as what you are writing about, but when I use the editor, my window shows a "Source" button on the toolbar:

I had a little trouble following that but I think i got it.   I don't seem to have trouble deleting quotes.   (just tried it)  , but I for sure can delete the HTML if it came down to it.   (what tron pointed out) 

 

Im posting above the video without deleting it, If i'm understanding the problem.   The videos are posted without BB code tags, just by cutting & pasting the top line URL rather than a "generated" one.    Might have to clarify if it sounds like I'm not grasping the problem.

I don't see the source button on mine!  I see bold as the first item.  Maybe it's a feature turned on just for the admin/mods?

Anyway I can delete videos and then post above/underneath, and then post the video underneath/above that (respectively) and that works.  If I don't and I accidentally delete the space above/below the video then I can't put in a new space and have to delete the video in order to make it.  I also can't delete a quote form (container around the quote) no matter how hard I try.

Anyway, having access to the source button wouldn't fix that, it would at least make it easier to edit a line in or take code out.

 

Also it seems like some issues affect the users and not mods/higher.  I'd suggest making a test account with generic permissions to test issues out.

Not to get ....I'm flattered, but I'm not a Mod nor am I an Administrator, just a nosy busybody who spends way too much time living vicariously in virtual space...

You have to click in front of the video and hit return or behind the video and hit return. That's how you place the cursor. You can also use the arrow keys to move in front of or after the video.

I've tried that.  I can highlight the box but when I hit delete the box doesn't go away, and I can't get in front of the box with the keyboard or the mouse.  This isn't my first time on a computer, the internet, a BBS system.  I know how things should work, they just aren't for me.

I am using Chromium on Linux Mint with the ublock oriign, umatrix, privacy badger, DOI Resolver, and HTTPS Everywhere plugins.  That shouldn't effect it but maybe it is?  I'll test on other stuff and see but I think it would be really weird behavior if it did.

Using Firefox in Linux Mint now, deleted the quote box successfully (probably could with Chromium too, I just did it the wrong way)

Still no source button though :(

Posted a video, put a line under it I couldn't get rid of on the bottom.  However on the top I still couldn't click or move the cursor in front of it to move it down, I could only highlight and delete.

silly question - have you tried clicking behind whatever box it is you can't delete, then hitting "home" (or "home" & "page up") on the keyboard & then "enter" a couple times? that's how i typically do it.

Well I have to mouse over just right, if I just hit up it selects the quote box and not the entire forum box with the time in it, then if I hit delete it deletes the first character of the quoted text.  It's not really keyboard control friendly behavior but hey, everyone has a mouse right?  Why would anyone not have a mouse?

Side note, I should start using i3 and elinks for everything.
