Fuel is not an unlimited resource. The days of cheap gas should have been over long ago. American's have been completely spoiled... The rest of the world pay's double or more what we do to limit consumption. Our turn is next. Deal with it. Go find and old Honda Civic and enjoy 40mpg. :cool

Sorry...not trying to be mean or harsh Crank... I realize it creates hardship, but if we don't limit things now...it's going to run out way sooner then if we had exercised restraint and intelligence in our nations energy policy.

On a related note... We cry about jobs going overseas... Guess why? Because of the pressure on manufacturers for cheap goods. We want everything cheap... there's a price for that.

End of rant....

The one thing you forgot Marc is the cost of living in America is so out of control,I'll be damned if I am going to pay $10 a loaf of bread(being sarcastic)people who are smart and go to work everyday and do their jobs well, but are still getting paid lower than the cost of living, wages for most never fit the cost of living, and too many companies do not pay according to the cost of living, thats all,end of my rant.btw I was not yelling at you.

actually... the price of fuel right now... adjusted for inflation... is exactly what it was in 1980. Ofcourse... that was the all time high.

Over inflate your tires. Replace your air filter. Car pool. Plan your trips. Use Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer, Or Synthetic Oil Stabilizer along with a respected brand of engine oil and transmission fluid.

When it comes time to replace your vehicle, trade down in size to trade up in fuel economy.

I practice what I preach... my main vehicle is a 50cc scooter. I use spare change to fill up.

I saw that right before you posted. I go now to get more coffee, my bad.

Over inflate your tires.

DO NOT over inflate your tires!! you can keep them at the recommended amx psi, but overinflating does a couple things - 1) it will wear your tires much more quickly, but only in the center, so from the outside of the car, your tires will look fine, even if they're bald in the middle, 2) it can lead to handling problems while driving...

Over inflation is a gray area. Consult the hyper mileage groups on what is considered a "safe" level of over inflation.

Properly inflate your ties. Over inflating them can and will get you killed or some innocent who happens to be there when you cash or the tiers explodes.

I take the bus.....

It is inconvienient and smelly.....

I sold my car when it first reached $3 a Gal.....

I remember .97 a Gal, and I am not that old!!!!!

I most certainly am not advocating anything outrageous in terms of over inflation. Perhaps one or two more pounds per square inch, nothing more. To be truthful I haven't done it, though... although it has been lauded by the hyper mileage types.

and when was the last time any one with an extreme view of anything had a solution for a problem you could really support?

Well, I completely dismiss all arguments for the death penalty without thought... we all have our contradictions, Gaf.

Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King and Ghandi.

All three had extreme views and extreme (if non-violent) solutions I can totally support. :animier:

You asked!

I started driving seven years ago and the gas prices were around 1.50/gallon. It's amazing to hear that gas used to be like .75 when my dad started driving and that was like 28 years ago. I could just imagine how pissed he is about gas prices. Or the people that are even older than my dad that remember gas prices being even lower than that.

I think that all of this is bullshit. I bet that some people are just working to pay for gas and that just isn't right. It just isn't. People should at least be able to live comfortably without having to worry if they will have enough gas to get to and from work the next day.

I'm 28 (nearly 29), I got my license at 15 ... gas prices were under a dollar a gallon then. It used to cost me about $10 to fill up my car (a 1988 Chevy Beretta).

In 2001, I can remember living in Chesterfield and gas rose to about $3.00 a gallon for a few days, but quickly went back down to about $1.50.

Only in the past few years has it really risen over $2.00 a gallon.

It now cost me between $30 and $35 to fill up my 2007 Mazda 3.

Not good.

I go through tires like crazy anyway ... just replaced all 4 (and a four wheel alignment) at 15 months and 30,000 miles. And I don't do cheap tires. Not to mention most newer cars are equipped with TPMS, which can drive you insane if the tires aren't properly inflated, also causing damage to your alignment, suspension, cause poor handling and voiding your warranties if done on purpose.

We need to get Oil taken off the exchange. It should not be on the futures market. Thats where most of the price is coming from. Not the government, not the oil comapnys and not the middle east. Fat cat wall street brokers fucking with the price.

I hope they rise to the point where America will have to start actually walking or using mass transit and save the cars as a luxury thing.

We don't need our own individual vehicles. Europe has it right, imo, people tend to be more functional, happy, and moreover healther there. In America we all have a very "Well what about me and MY family? Me me ME!" mentality and IMO individual personal vehicles just cater into that pretencious & egocentric mindset.

We've been so pampered with cars our entire existance, that's why we're so afraid to lose them. Now I get jealous of the people waiting at the bus stop because I realize they're out there, able to WATCH the world, not have it zip past them in a hurry, and they're getting sunshine (Vitamin D), and enjoying the day. I actually MISS taking the bus in a way. Sure, it's nice having a car for emergencies or night-time stuff, but for the past two weeks I've been thinking: "Hmm, I should start taking the bus again. I miss it."

It may take a little more planning ahead of time to travel (oh GASP! Personal responsiblity? Not that!) but it can easily be done. We now just need a change in infrastructure and mindset, which takes time and ohhhh NO...EFFORT!

Notice, furthermore, that the Metro Detroit area is one of the most car-oriented areas in America...and yet most people living around here tend to be called "lazy", have health/weight problems (statistically speaking Macomb County, my home county, is the most overweight in the nation), has a grumpy/hasty populace, and most people in the Detroit area are shut-in types (from what I've noticed). Coincidence...? I think not.

People in the suburbs DO NOT have the choice of mass transit. Before getting rid of cars, the mass transit system in the state of Michigan would have to *vastly* improve.
